We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher with a passion for experimental work as well as education. The successful candidate will investigate multinucleon transfer reactions at the NEXT experiment in Groningen and at the RITU separator at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland. NEXT is a new setup which consists of a solenoid pre-separator coupled to a MR ToF MS. It is based at the PARTREC facility in Groningen and uses heavy ion beams provided by the AGOR cyclotron. The successful candidate will help with the commissioning of the NEXT setup, and play a leading role in the day one experiments to study multinucleon transfer reactions at NEXT. Furthermore, we plan to perform nuclear reaction studies at the RITU separator in Jyväskylä.
As a societal relevant component of this project, we will organize monthly half-day workshops for radiochemists reaching from a PhD student level, over postdocs to staff scientists who are working in the University Medical Centers in the Netherlands. The aim of the workshops is to identify bottle-necks in medical isotope production, and identify new isotopes of potential application in nuclear medicine. We anticipate to organize 12 half-day workshops. The successful postdoc will take over a leading role in the workshop organization and teaching. The workshops will be held in English.
The position is financed by the Dutch Research Council NWO through a grant “NWA Innovative projects within routes 2024”. NWA projects contribute to increasing the societal and scientific impact of the route of the Dutch Science agenda.
Aim of the project is to explore the production of exotic nuclei in the laboratory to answer fundamental questions in nuclear physics as well as transferring knowledge from the nuclear physics community to the medical community.
