Your work will shape product design and safety by uncovering hidden patterns in our comprehensive shelf-life database, using advanced data science and machine learning techniques. This internship offers hands-on experience in statistical analysis, data modeling, and programming (Matlab, Python or R), plus the chance to directly contribute to faster, more cost-effective product development. The internship will last 6 months with a preferable starting date in March 2025.

Wat we vragen

To be successful in this position, you have/ are:

  • You are proactive and responsible, always seeking new opportunities to improve and innovate within your role.
  • Strong analytical mindset with a passion for understanding complex data and uncovering meaningful insights.
  • Knowledge of basic statistical analysis (e.g., probability distributions, ANOVA, Student’s T-test) is required; familiarity with advanced methods (e.g., PCA, PLS, Random Forest) is a plus.
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Data Science, Food Science, Nutrition, Statistics, or a related field, with programming experience in Matlab, Python or R.

Your main tasks will include performing data analyses using both classical statistics and machine learning techniques to detect patterns in nutrient degradation over time. With supervision and guidance, you'll apply tools in Python or R to uncover insights that can reduce the need for intensive shelf-life testing, helping us develop safer, high-quality products more efficiently.

You will work in the team of Specialized Nutrition, which consists of ca. 60 colleagues working on infant food. You will report on a regular basis to a data scientist, who will help with setting the scope of your internship. The location is Wageningen Innovation Centre and your home office.
