To be successful as a Senior Data Scientist, you should have the following experience:

Data Manipulation

Proficient in big data technologies (e.g. Spark, Dask, Polars), as well as interacting with databases.

Code Development

  • Extensive experience in Python (or Scala), including writing unit tests and creating reusable and maintainable code.
  • Experience in collaboratively adding to a production codebase.

Model Development

  • Proven track record in building predictive and explainable models in a professional role with industry standard libraries.
  • Good understanding of statistical modelling and ML techniques.

Some other highly valued skills include:

Advanced Mathematics, Statistics, or Specialized Knowledge

  • Advanced degree with a strong foundation in statistics, mathematics or the sciences.
  • Specialized data science knowledge e.g. NLP techniques, generative AI, Bayesian modelling, causal learning.

Data Visualization

Skilled in visualizing analytical outputs in a clear and concise way using tools such as matplotlib, plotly, Tableau etc.

Experience in delivering impactful and innovative solutions in Financial Services (or another regulated industry)

  • A clear passion for making financial services more customer-centric through ethical data science practices.
  • Demonstrated capacity to drive innovation and continuous improvement.

MLOps

Familiarity with MLOps, model deployment and the monitoring of machine learning systems.

Leadership

Experience in leading a team is beneficial.

Purpose of the role

To use innovative data analytics and machine learning techniques to extract valuable insights from the bank's data reserves, leveraging these insights to inform strategic decision-making, improve operational efficiency, and drive innovation across the organization.

Accountabilities

  • Identification, collection, extraction of data from various sources, including internal and external sources.
  • Performing data cleaning, wrangling, and transformation to ensure its quality and suitability for analysis.
  • Development and maintenance of efficient data pipelines for automated data acquisition and processing.
  • Design and conduct of statistical and machine learning models to analyze patterns, trends, and relationships in the data.
  • Development and implementation of predictive models to forecast future outcomes and identify potential risks and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to seek out opportunities to add value from data through Data Science.
