With a passion for technological innovation and sustainable solutions, we continue to push the boundaries in naval shipbuilding. You can be part of our team! Are you ready for duty?

THE ROLE

As Technical Specialist Vulnerability at Damen Naval, you will play a crucial role in the development, advisory, and engineering activities related to one or more specialized subjects within research, design, proposals, and project execution. Your deep expertise will contribute significantly to the advancement and promotion of these areas. Recognized for your knowledge and reputation in your field, you will be part of a small, dedicated team of specialists involved in RDI projects, proposal and engineering activities, including the verification of performance during FAT, HAT, and SAT.

Your focus will be on reducing the vulnerability of naval vessels by ensuring intelligent system design and the application of advanced technologies to enhance survivability against threats. This multidisciplinary role requires close collaboration with colleagues responsible for mechanical and electrical system design, structural design, arrangements, and other key disciplines.

During the preliminary design stages, you will conduct trade-off studies and identify the optimal system layout. Throughout the engineering phase, you will analyse the ship's resilience to inform decision-making and mitigate risks. Additionally, you will perform design control activities during the detailed engineering phase. Your role will also involve identifying and researching innovative technology solutions, leveraging both practical knowledge and academic expertise.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing as Technical Specialist to the Research & Development, Proposals, and Engineering departments by developing, reviewing, and advising on deliverables such as aspect management plans, aspect analysis reports, calculations, simulations, technical specifications, and test/validation protocols for complex projects.
  • Supporting Verification and Validation tests and trials during the production support phase or as part of a research project.
  • Actively participating in the development of your field of expertise and promoting findings within potential projects.
  • Supporting design reviews and delivering high-quality engineering work within agreed timelines, quality standards, and budget constraints.
  • Ensuring full compliance with all applicable requirements and specifications.
  • Contributing to the continuous evaluation and improvement of processes, tools, and the development, transfer, and retention of knowledge within the department.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in a technical field, coupled with at least one year of relevant experience.
  • Expertise in one or more specialized technical subjects such as system design, vulnerability reduction concepts, or signature reduction concepts for naval vessels and/or offshore installations.
  • Experience in vulnerability reduction and system design and in complex project environments is an advantage.
  • Strong communication skills, with experience collaborating with research institutes, universities, engineers, and project and tender managers in naval shipbuilding or a related industry.
  • Good command of the Dutch and English language both written and verbal.
  • Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.
  • Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
