Senior Backend Engineer Promotions & Discounts (Java, Kotlin, Microservices, Kubernetes)

Our promo team is responsible for all the discounts and promotions that our shoppers in our stores can enjoy on a daily basis! The role offers a lot of freedom and responsibilities when it comes to setting up the backend for this new technology. Not everything is set in stone. We are looking for someone who wants to embrace this challenge and sees it as something positive!

Your role

This team is building a new technology from scratch to display our promotions, campaigns and bonus boxes in the best way possible. In your role as a Senior Backend Engineer, you:

• Will work as the senior / lead developer for the team
• Will spend a significant amount of time on hands-on delivery as well as code reviews
• Will secure the quality as well as speed of delivery in our Agile Scrum cadence.
• Communicates effectively and collaborates with Engineering Manager, product owner, team members, architects, and other stakeholders (Dutch not mandatory)

You can work independently and leverage available knowledge on StackOverflow, and GitHub Copilot Chat to deliver high quality solutions. When you ask for input, you do it like this: “Hey, I am facing this challenge, I found two different solutions X and Y using Z. I personally think solution X is better because X reason. Do you agree? Any team specific practices I should be aware off when implementing?” You are passionate about your craft, you want to keep learning and improving and you are not afraid to ask for what you need to make that happen. You love to adapt quickly to new technologies and frameworks as the backend landscape evolves. You bring your own perspective and experiences to help the team improve but also demonstrate willingness to embrace and deliver on the technical vision set out by the team. You are driven by results. It might not always be your job, but roles shouldn’t stop you from going the extra mile and putting a spotlight on challenges that are hampering the team’s results so we can find a solution together.

• Has 10+ hands-on experience in the full software lifecycle building Springboot, Java/Kotlin, Github Actions/Azure DevOps/Jenkins, Kubernetes/Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Mongo DB/Postgress DB (or any noSQL DB), Kafka (topics), Azure/AWS/GCP PaaS.
• Knowledge of technologies such as GraphQL is a plus
• Has experience driving the technical landscape, solution design, implementation, operations, business alignments, prioritization, along with the team
• Has experience working as a senior/lead developer
• Has good interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
