Want to make your mark on our time? Become a Business Developer at TNO!

About this position

As a Business Developer for Circular Plastics, you’ll be responsible for developing and marketing new value propositions. You’ll support companies, industrial clusters, and institutions in the transition from fossil to sustainable materials, using a wide range of technical disciplines and expertise that TNO has at its disposal.

What will be your role?

Your main area of focus will be the design and use of circular plastics. Key issues include:

  • Determining the quality of recycled plastics and using the best possible recyclate.
  • Improving the lifetime of plastics in specific applications such as infrastructure and construction by understanding and preventing material degradation.
  • Understanding how microplastics form and preventing their formation by developing and using the right materials.

To answer these questions, we draw on our expertise in materials, materials processing, analysis, and microplastics. Working closely with partners and colleagues, you’ll advise on and develop value propositions, business cases, and a portfolio of research projects so that materials and technologies are effectively applied in the wider European circular and sustainable economy. You’ll develop propositions, projects, and programmes that focus on the use of circular plastics, involving both business-to-business projects and the development of projects within consortia and public-private partnerships. You’ll work with scientists, consultants, and project managers on what the market needs and how to apply innovation. In this way, we join forces to solve challenges faced by society. You’ll also be involved in expanding TNO’s industry and partner network, and you’ll support management in developing and validating the portfolio of technology propositions. As a business developer, you’ll work across a broad range of materials, process technology, chemistry, and energy, always in combination with social, techno-economic, and environmental impact considerations and determinations.

What we expect from you

With your experience in industry and associated network, you understand the value of new technology options and know how we can solve the challenges of implementing these new technologies in a broad ecosystem. You enjoy working in a multidisciplinary, multinational, and inclusive team. You have an open mind and are keen to learn from your colleagues and share knowledge within your team. You’re able to think from the point of view of clients and jointly identify the potential of technology. You’re client and results-oriented and able to close deals. You combine this with strong skills in communication, networking, and collaborative learning. You possess critical thinking skills and have the ability to quickly understand the potential of new technologies. You’re used to working in a dynamic environment, which enables you to adapt rapidly to different situations. Other knowledge and skills you bring to TNO:

  • At least a completed Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in materials science, chemistry, process or chemical technology, or sustainable engineering.
  • At least three years’ experience in a business development role, with a track record in business-to-business project development, building public-private partnerships, and the ability to develop and sell new propositions and ‘industry first’.
  • Experience of the entire business development process, from gaining initial market insight to closing deals.
  • At least B2 level in both Dutch and English (additional language skills are a plus).

What you'll get in return

Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross yearly salary of € 121.980,- (based on your knowledge and experience), which includes 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself. TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:

  • An extremely professional, innovative working environment where colleagues are leading experts in their field.
  • The opportunity to attend courses, workshops, and conferences, and to receive training and coaching based on your needs.
  • 33 days annual leave on a full-time basis.
  • An employer that values and encourages diverse talent, with initiatives like the Female Leadership Program, our Rainbow Community and round tables on inclusion topics.
  • We offer a comprehensive and flexible mobility plan that includes full compensation for public transportation for commuting and business travel or a leased car.
  • Great social events with your team and other TNO colleagues; that’s how you will get to know a lot of people really quickly.
  • Flexible working hours, the possibility to work part-time (32 or 36 hours) and the possibility of working from home.
  • A good pension scheme.
