Within Care and Rehabilitation Services, the philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalize prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and causes of prison stress are minimized. Central to our philosophy is the relationship between staff and prisoners. Our training and operational practices emphasize the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and G4S staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care. HMP Oakwood is one of the largest prisons in England and Wales, providing places for up to approximately 2100 Category C male prisoners.

We now have an opportunity for a Trainee Psychologist to join our team at HMP Oakwood to assist with the implementation of a new suite of interventions at HMP Oakwood and be involved in offering support and consultation to a new resettlement wing for those serving indeterminate and long-term sentences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Completion of psychological risk assessments for parole reviews and sentence planning reviews.
  • Providing consultation in different areas of the prison, including the new resettlement wing, within the Care and Separation Unit, and as part of the care offered to those who are a risk to themselves.
  • Delivering, supervising, and managing Offending Behaviour Programmes and ensuring psychological oversight and input where required.
  • Delivering training and completing research based on business need.
  • Assessments for OBP’s and bespoke intervention.
  • Delivery of bespoke interventions for those with complex needs who require different approaches to OBP’s.
  • Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner & follow the applicable safe systems of work for the role.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be required to enrol on a contracted accredited qualification in forensic psychology which will support them to achieve registered forensic psychologist status with the HCPC. As such, it is a requirement that they have already gained their master's in forensic psychology.

Experience working in a forensic/secure setting and assessing risk and delivering interventions would be desirable but not essential.
