We are one of the world’s largest food retail groups and a leader in both supermarkets and e-commerce. Together with our 19 strong local retail brands in the United States, Europe, and Indonesia, we make a meaningful difference in the lives of our brands’ customers, our people, and the world around us. We offer a highly dynamic, international work environment where our associates thrive.

Your New Work Environment

As Financial Controller EU, you’ll join the Finance team at European Business Services (EBS), a shared services organization dedicated to helping Ahold Delhaize’s great European brands achieve their strategic goals. The impact on the organization is tangible: we provide insights that enable our colleagues to offer the right guidance and targets for the business and drive innovation and change in different domains of the company. All our Finance teams consist of smart, high-performing finance professionals who enjoy pioneering and taking ownership of their work.

EU Financial Control focuses on period and quarterly reporting and closing procedures. Key is to deliver valuable financial insights to European management and EU business control based on complete and accurate financial accounting processes. You will be responsible for an entity focusing on EU-wide topics like IT and vendor allowances. We are about to set new roles and responsibilities for the financial processes of this entity, and the financial controller will lead in implementing this.

You will be given the freedom and responsibility to take ownership of your work and broaden your horizons by working with knowledgeable colleagues from different countries with abundant expertise in many areas. We will continually invest in you and help you build on your talents and skills for the future.

Key Responsibilities of Your Role

Your role is highly diverse and encompasses various responsibilities. Here are the key ones:

  • You are responsible for timely periodic closing of the EU entities;
  • You make sure that the financial figures (balance sheet and P&L) of the EU entities are accurate and complete;
  • You coordinate and discuss results with business controllers responsible for the EU entities;
  • You coordinate with our outsourcing partner for accounting services and assure service levels;
  • You are proactive in bringing continuous improvement;
  • You participate in EU projects on streamlining, standardization, and automation of our financial processes and reporting;
  • You coordinate audits for EU entities with external auditors and tax department and ensure audits are timely completed;

What’s in it for You?

Apart from what we ask of you in this role, we have a great deal to offer you: plenty of growth opportunities and various cross-brand career options; flexible working hours; a hybrid working model; and the chance to drive meaningful change on a global scale. You can look forward to a good work-life balance and the opportunity to work in an inclusive environment that wholeheartedly encourages growth and welcomes you just the way you are.

Plus:
  • A gross annual salary of €75,000 to €85,000 based on full-time employment, depending on experience;
  • Attractive bonuses;
  • A first-rate pension plan;
  • 20 vacation days and the option to buy an additional 12.5 days from your personal ‘flex budget’;
  • Travel expenses or an NS travel card;
  • A laptop and smartphone;

Requirements

We think you’ll be best geared for success if you meet the following requirements:

  • Have a university degree in business studies or business economics, preferably combined with a degree in controlling or accounting (RC, RA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent);
  • Able to collaborate across boundaries (functions, brands, and geographies) to build strategic relationships and achieve common goals;
  • At least 6 years’ experience in Finance, preferably in Audit, Accounting, or Financial Control;
  • Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written);

Apart from these hard skills, you should also bring some much-valued soft skills to the table: the ability to impact and influence stakeholders (both internal and external) and the drive for change and innovation.
