What will you do as an IT Intern?

During your internship at Vopak you will be part of the Architecture & Design (A&D) team. The A&D team consists of solution architects and business process analysts who are responsible for the design of business processes and IT solutions, based on functional and non-functional requirements. You will work on the non-functional requirements gathering and definition process that is used as input for designs by the architects and business process analysts. Currently, there is a guideline related to these NFR’s, but this guideline needs improvement. It turns out that sometimes it is difficult for the Vopak business stakeholders to understand and define these requirements.

Your assignment is to come up with a new (more easy to understand) guideline that consists of clear and the most important non-functional requirements, a process on how to gather these requirements, and how to administer them in our architecture repository. You will liaise with various different business and IT stakeholders to understand their needs in this domain. Through the guidance of an experienced solution architect, we will work towards independently carrying out research work during the course of the internship, with which you will actually contribute to improving our digital solutions.

What do we expect from you as an IT Intern?

• You are currently enrolled in a university (HBO/WO) education program in Industrial Engineering & Management or any related study that acts between the lines of business and IT;
• You are currently enrolled in a Dutch university or university of applied sciences and remain enrolled till the end of your internship period;
• You are available part- or full-time for at least 4 months;
• You have strong verbal and written English communication skills;
• You have affinity with IT Technology and IT architecture;
• You are a people person who likes being involved with multiple projects with various stakeholders;
• Good academic records

What are the responsibilities?

Assignments:

• Research the market best practices on non-functional requirements gathering and definition;
• Simplify the NFR topics to more generic topics and limit only the necessary;
• Provide NFR guidelines and gathering process in general;
• Use our Architecture Repository (LeanlX) to create questionnaires for Product Managers to document the NFR’s for specific applications.
