Purpose of the Role

To prepare and respond to financial distress by the development and implementation of recovery and resolution plans, assessment of the financial viability of distressed entities, and provision of advice on potential resolution strategies.

Key Accountabilities

  • Development and evaluation of potential resolution strategies for distressed entities, and analysis of the financial implications and potential impact of each strategy.
  • Development and maintenance of recovery and resolution plans for the bank's business units and entities, ensuring continuity of essential services in case of distress.
  • Analysis of financial data and assessment of the viability of distressed entities to evaluate financial strength, capital position, and liquidity risks faced by distressed entities.
  • Oversee Barclays’ Financial Crisis Management Framework with Treasury and maintain Barclays’ Group Recovery Plan.
  • Maintain resolution capabilities across the Group and its Material Legal Entities; coordinate and deliver regulatory and public disclosures (UK and Europe).
  • Ensure appropriate assurance processes to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and expectations.
  • Ensure appropriate valuation capabilities are maintained, including models, methodologies, and documentation, including processes to onboard an external valuer if necessary.
  • Conduct holistic testing of resolvability capabilities, including decision-making and governance processes across multiple workstreams tested with Boards, Ex Cos, and senior AEs.
  • Support business stakeholders across the group, including SMRs, in meeting global regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate with regulators to provide timely updates on the bank's recovery and resolution activities.

  • Manage a business function, providing significant input to strategic initiatives and influencing policy and procedures.
  • Lead a large team or organisation-wide projects, acting as a technical expert and thought leader. Train, guide, and coach less experienced specialists.
  • Provide expert advice to senior management and committees to influence decisions made outside of own function.
  • Manage, coordinate, and enable resourcing, budgeting, and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
  • Foster and guide compliance, ensuring relevant processes are in place to facilitates adherence to regulations.
  • Focus on the external environment to monitor and influence regulators or advocacy groups on behalf of Barclays.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business to achieve objectives.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry theories, practices, and external market developments.
  • Use advanced analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in complex situations.
  • Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally.
  • Act as principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other functions/businesses.
  • Mandated as a spokesperson for the function and business division.
