Are you looking for a challenging graduate internship where you can apply your analytical skills and programming knowledge? Do you want to contribute to improve our work processes and making more efficient use of public data with a focus on the environment and soil? Then this internship at Arcadis is perfect for you!

What are you going to do?

The field of soil at Arcadis is broad. We work in our Soil advisory groups from preliminary investigations into the soil's condition to supervision of soil remediation projects. We also work on multidisciplinary projects where our expertise in soil is required.

In the preparation and execution of our projects, a lot of data is collected, processed, analyzed, and reported. Various public, non-public and commercial sources are consulted for this purpose, like Informatiepunt leefomgeving, Bodemloket, PDOK, de Geologische Dienst Nederland, Omgevingsdiensten, Streetsmart, etc. Searching, processing, and analysis of information from public sources is often done manually, making it time-consuming. However, nowadays, data is often offered through various web services and APIs. Therefore, we want to explore the relevant web services for our field and how we can make the most efficient use of them.

During your graduate internship, you will research the different web services available, with a focus on the environment and soil. Important sources we want to explore include the BRO Loket of the “Basis Registratie Ondergrond (BRO)” and the “Digitaal Stelsel Omgevingswet (DSO)”.

You will map the data needs and requirements of our projects and link them to the web services that can meet those needs. Additionally, you will also identify other interesting web services that may be relevant to our field.

Furthermore, you will develop prototypes for automatic data integration that can be used within our work processes. Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Researching available web services for data integration;
  • Identifying data needs and requirements of our projects;
  • Linking the data needs to the relevant web services;
  • Developing and testing prototypes of data integration solutions;
  • Evaluating the performance, usability, and reliability of the developed prototypes;
  • Documenting and presenting findings and recommendations for the best data exchange solutions for our projects.

What do we ask?

  • You are pursuing a relevant HBO or WO degree, such as Informatics, Data Science, Environmental Science, Soil Science, Geo-information, or a similar field;
  • You have affinity with the environment, soil, and/or geo-informatics and are interested in data integration and web services;
  • You can work independently and have a proactive attitude;
  • You have strong analytical skills and can translate complex information into concrete solutions;
  • You have good programming skills;
  • You have good communication skills and can create clear reports and presentations.
