About Damen Workboats

The Role

As a Lead Engineer Mechanical, you will be part of the standardization team, which is responsible for the development of the standard systems, parts, and solutions. Within the standardization team, all the building blocks will be developed (including class approval), which will be integrated into the new or existing ship designs. This aims to increase the commonality over the various ship types, which ultimately leads to a reduction in cost, shortened engineering lead time, and improved overall quality.

Key Activities

  • Supporting the Services department and the Yards in case of problems related to the standard designs
  • Standardization and development of mechanical projects in general
  • Creating a well-supported technical design and solution, based on functional and/or stakeholder requirements
  • Ensuring that the designs and solutions comply with the applicable rules and standards

Key Accountabilities

  • Executing all phases of engineering according to the V-model, from setting up functional requirements to preparing commissioning protocols
  • Setting up and executing a project plan from end-to-end
  • Assessing and analyzing input from suppliers, services, and detailed engineering
  • Working closely with all stakeholders
  • Monitoring quality and organizing interface and system integration with other disciplines and co-makers
  • Performing complex calculations related to Class, load/power, strength, and flow in the mechanical engineering field
  • Supporting the Class and National Authorities approval process
  • Preparing system diagrams, propulsion arrangements, and outfitting drawings
  • Preparing test protocols and analyzing the test results
  • Preparing design philosophies, measurements, and commissioning protocols
  • Coordinating the work with the Engineers in the team
  • Outsourcing work to our 3D Engineering partners

Skills & Experience

  • a quality consciousness and a practical approach
  • easy-going, proactive, creative, showing ownership, and result-driven
Bachelor degree in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical Engineering
  • Working experience in Mechanical Engineering in the maritime sector
  • Specialist technical knowledge in one or two more specific mechanical disciplines
  • Familiarity with the Rules and Regulations and the ability to interpret and translate them for our ship-type portfolio
  • An interest in innovation and an open mindset to new technologies
  • Good communication skills in managing stakeholders
  • English is a must, Dutch is a plus
