Industrial Placement Air Commercial

Location: Warton/Samlesbury (Lancashire)

Start Date: 23rd June 2025

BAE Systems offers a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements; however, during the Industrial Placement programme, you are expected to attend your site 3-4 days per week. Please note, this may change in line with business needs. Specific hybrid working arrangements will be outlined by your line manager.

Why BAE Systems?

This is a place where you’ll make a real difference. You'll be part of an inclusive culture that values diversity, rewards integrity and merit, and empowers you to fulfill your potential. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds, especially those currently underrepresented in our industry, including women, ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ individuals.

What You Will Be Doing

The principal purpose of the Commercial function is to manage and develop constructive, long-lasting relationships with customers, suppliers, and partners based on trust and proven operational excellence.

The function contains 2 disciplines, and you will experience both during your time on the graduate scheme:

  • Contracts: This discipline disseminates Commercial policies and processes, delivers effective management of contracts, and supports the generation of bids and proposals to Customers that are priced, developed, and approved within the Business.
  • Estimating: This discipline produces and collates cost estimates for determining bid prices and estimates to complete contract work. The estimating activity includes business winning and contract execution phases.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Preparing and drafting commercial bids and proposals.
  • Supporting contract and price negotiations, customer audits, fact-finds, and contract closure with key internal/external customers.
  • Administration and preparation of data to support Senior Management Reviews.
  • Maintaining awareness of Governance processes and best commercial and governance practices.
  • Interpreting contract requirements (including but not limited to terms and conditions).
  • Validation or challenge of functional estimate returns through the compilation of independent views to drive affordable and profitable solutions.
  • Deploying cost estimates used in the price build-up to work area budgets.

Skills and Qualifications

As a minimum requirement, you’ll need to be on track to obtain a 2.2 in your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree. All subjects are considered for this role.

To be considered for this role, you must be returning to university to complete your degree.

Opportunities for Growth and Development

We encourage employees to explore projects beyond their primary responsibilities, providing them with diverse experiences. With a wide range of products and a multinational presence, there are ample opportunities for employees to engage in various projects and initiatives.

Community Involvement

BAE Systems values community engagement. Employees are encouraged to participate in community projects, STEM initiatives, and employee resource groups, offering valuable learning experiences outside of their regular roles.

Retention and Career Development

Recognising the importance of retaining talented individuals, we offer sponsorship, career development support, and high-potential development programs. These initiatives help employees plan their careers effectively and provide opportunities for accelerated development for those who demonstrate aspiration, ability, and performance.

Benefits

You’ll receive benefits including a competitive pension scheme, enhanced annual leave allowance, and a company-contributed Share Incentive Plan. Additional benefits such as flexible working, an employee assistance programme, Cycle2work, and employee discounts are available – you may also be eligible for an annual incentive.

Inclusivity within Our Recruitment Process

We strive to make our recruitment processes as inclusive as possible. If you have a disability or health condition (e.g., dyslexia, autism, an anxiety disorder) that may affect your performance in certain assessments, please speak to your recruiter about potential reasonable adjustments.

Our Environmental Responsibility

We’re committed to changing the world for the better. Our target is achieving net-zero emissions by 2030. We’re innovating new ways to develop on-site renewable electricity and setting ambitious targets for water consumption and waste generation.

Export Control/Security

Many roles at BAE Systems are subject to security and export control restrictions. These restrictions may limit roles you can perform based on factors such as nationality, previous nationalities held, and place of birth.
