What You Will Be Doing

As a Nuclear Graduate in the Nuclear Safety & Regulation Department (NSRD), you will join a varied department responsible for the oversight of nuclear safety and environmental management across all submarine programmes and activities. Within NSRD there are multiple teams covering a wide range of nuclear safety-related roles ranging from Radiochemists to Regulatory Advisors to Safety Case Engineers, all of which work closely with the wider functions and across the whole product life cycle.

Duties and Responsibilities

Nuclear Safety roles within NSRD are varied and unique so the role requirements will differ for each area. As a Nuclear Safety & Regulation Graduate you can expect to spend time across a number of our diverse teams within our departments building the required knowledge and experience to support your development.

Typical NSRD Graduate Activities/Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the delivery of Nuclear Safety documentation in accordance with relevant department/project/programme plans.
  • Contribute to the demonstration of compliance against nuclear and environmental regulations.
  • Gain knowledge of Nuclear Law in the UK and the Nuclear Industry and its regulation.
  • Facilitate programme delivery through innovative engineering solutions.
  • Receive exposure to working with a range of stakeholders across the BAE submarines network along with external stakeholders.

The breadth of activities above gives an indication of the wide array of activities carried out by the departments within NSRD. You should note that there is the opportunity to tailor both your graduate experience and final role to the type of work that you find most enjoyable once you have experienced the different types of roles within NSRD. The direction you take will be discussed at your regular reviews.
