The Role: Research Engineer Mechanics & Systems

You will be part of a diverse and multidisciplinary research team of up to four engineers. A Research Engineer Mechanics & Systems is responsible for the development of high-end technological knowledge of new mechanical systems and the dissemination thereof within Damen. A Research Engineer closely follows the technological developments both in and outside the company.

You are eager to know the latest developments regarding the power and propulsion systems, alternative fuels, data-driven maintenance, and fuel cell systems. Your role is to understand the fundamental principles of these technologies. You are motivated to initiate your own research project ideas and pitch them to our stakeholders. You conduct research projects in a team as well as individually, supporting the integration and implementation of the new technologies. As a research engineer, you might actually go on-board and validate the developed solution in the real world and use this to build experience and to maintain a hands-on approach.

Based on the research, you will advise our business to explore new vessel concepts and contribute to future product development. We participate in European or national funded collaboration R&D projects. In these projects, we work together with other internal stakeholders from the business, as well as suppliers and research and knowledge institutes. You will have lots of opportunities to build and maintain your own network. This creates an interesting and challenging mix of creativity, science, and communication.
