The Workboats Division is a key component of Damen Shipyards, alongside Offshore & Specialized Vessels, Yachting, and Naval. We specialize in the design, engineering, building, and commissioning of workboats, including High-Speed Craft, Fast Ferries, Stationary Dredgers, and Tugs.

Technology advancement in shipbuilding is accelerating, and Damen Workboats aims to be at the leading edge. We continually seek new ways to design, standardize, and optimize innovative systems.

The Technology Management department is pivotal for technology development and standardization of our ship systems, ensuring modular and scalable solutions.

The Role

We are seeking a (jr.) Technology Specialist for the Alternative Fuels system platform team in the Technology Management department. This team is responsible for the entire lifecycle of our systems platform, covering technical content, supply chain, production, quality control, knowledge management, and documentation.

As a (jr.) Technology Specialist in Damen's Workboats division, you'll be part of the Alternative Fuels System Platform team. Your work will revolve around sustainability, digital advancements, and autonomous operations.

Your core responsibilities include conceptual design of Alternative Fuels systems, such as Methanol and Hydrogen. You'll collaborate with colleagues from various platforms, like Electric & Hybrid, IT on board, as well as suppliers, to convert requirements into viable concepts.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop new technology and standardize modular and scalable system families covering Damen Workboats' portfolio needs.
  • Manage concept development projects within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Set technology requirements based on business needs and market opportunities.
  • Convert requirements into functional and conceptual designs with engineers and technology specialists.
  • Develop necessary engineering deliverables like system definition documents and functional descriptions.
  • Support and review engineering information.
  • Guide technology development with suppliers by setting needs, requirements, and reviewing technical solutions.
  • Document knowledge in system principles and offer instructions and training.
  • Advise Product platform teams on technology integration into ship types' product portfolio.
  • Conduct FMEA analysis, HAZID studies, and arrange class approval.
  • Formulate detailed test and validation plans to ensure regulatory compliance and validate requirements through simulations and testing.

Skills & Experience

  • Willing to travel (based in The Netherlands).

You have:

  • An academic background with a bachelor's and/or master's degree in a technical discipline (e.g., Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Process Automation, or Electrical Engineering).
  • Demonstrable knowledge in the technical domain within a relevant industry.
  • Experience applying Systems Engineering principles.
  • Experience with marine installations' development and integration, including third-party collaboration.
  • Experience with marine industry standards and regulations.
  • A meticulous attention to quality and accuracy.
  • Effective communication skills in English; Dutch is a plus.
