Position Overview: The Customs Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring that the company's imports and exports comply with all relevant customs regulations and procedures. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and a good understanding of customs laws and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Documentation Management:
    • Prepare and review import and export documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain and update records of all customs documentation and transactions.
  2. Customs Compliance:
    • Ensure that all shipments comply with customs laws and regulations.
    • Liaise with customs officials and other government agencies to facilitate the smooth clearance of goods.
  3. Coordination and Communication:
    • Coordinate with internal departments (e.g., procurement, shipping, and finance) to gather necessary information for customs declarations.
    • Communicate with freight forwarders, carriers, and brokers to ensure timely and efficient movement of goods.
  4. Data Entry and Reporting:
    • Accurately enter customs data into relevant systems and databases.
    • Prepare regular reports on customs activities, including any issues or delays.
  5. Problem Solving:
    • Address and resolve any customs-related issues or discrepancies.
    • Stay updated on changes in customs regulations and advise the team accordingly.
  6. Support and Assistance:
    • Assist the Customs Manager with audits and inspections by providing necessary documentation and information.
    • Support the logistics team with other administrative tasks as required.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; an associate's or bachelor's degree in logistics, international trade, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience in customs, logistics, or a related field is advantageous.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of customs laws and regulations; familiarity with import/export procedures.
  • Skills:
    • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
    • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
