As a Geological Engineer you will be involved with the interpretation of complex geological, geotechnical and geophysical data, which is used in 3D models created with in-house software. You can be involved in the organization and execution of marine soil investigation projects including geophysical surveys. For the execution of these tasks, world-wide travelling can be part of the job. The results of your work will feed into the installation methods for subsea cables, foundations, or other offshore infrastructure.

YOUR IMPACT

In addition to the geological framework the implementation of detailed models into a Burial Assessment Study for Offshore Wind Farms will be part of your responsibility. This includes the incorporation of work methods, trenching production calculations for cable burial using in-house modelling software and supporting projects and tender teams. You will be challenged to innovate cable installation and burial methods and be part of the digital transition the department is undergoing. Other responsibilities are:

  • Create geological models based on geophysical and geotechnical studies;
  • Produce Burial Assessment Studies for Van Oord equipment and third party equipment;
  • Support tender and projects in execution with geological questions;
  • Provide input to tender and project documentation including claims;
  • Draft, procure and execute geotechnical surveys.

ABOUT YOU

You are proactive, analytical and you want to develop as a Geological Engineer having a key role in one or more tenders/projects. You see a challenge in translating geology to engineering solutions and you have strong skills to communicate this to colleagues and clients. Next to that you possess:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (Applied) Earth Sciences;
  • Affinity with hydraulic engineering;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • The ambition to develop yourself as a Geological Engineer who acts as a sparring partner for the Tender and Project teams;
  • Good communication skills, independent, taking initiative and work accurately;
  • Provide good spirit and collaboration within the entire team;
  • Willingness to go abroad or offshore when required.

The position is open to starters and people with experience. The position is based in our Gorinchem office, with the option to work from the Rotterdam office part time.

WE OFFER YOU

We offer you a position in which you will make a significant contribution to our mission of 'building a better world for future generations'. In addition, we offer you:

  • A salary in line with your responsibilities and experience;
  • An attractive travel allowance (€0.31 per km)- and home working allowance (€2.15- per day);
  • Additional allowances for working on board/on project sites abroad;
  • 32 holidays (of which a maximum of 7 are collective);
  • Variable bonus, depending on company results, among other things;
  • An attractive pension scheme;
  • Possibility of collective health insurance (Van Oord pays for your supplementary package);
  • Flexible home working arrangement; on a full-time basis, you can work from home for 2 days.
  • Extensive development opportunities, including a very comprehensive online academy via Goodhabitz;
  • Communities to join, such as: Young Van Oord, Van Oord Women and the Van Oord staff association;
  • Various events and sports activities, including winter sports, sailing weekend, cycling and motorcycling.
