That’s why we love them!

We think we have a good story to tell. And we know actions speak louder than words, so we put our money where our mouth is: we engage by example, practice what we preach, and apply all of our capabilities and resources to our shared purpose.

Orbisk employees do talk trash a lot. To be more precise, they discuss reducing food waste in the hospitality industry. We are a B-Corp certified pioneer in the sustainability sector, and are on a mission to revolutionize the world by reducing food waste through cutting-edge hardware technologies. Our footprint spans internationally, bringing both exciting opportunities and challenges as we grow. Orbisk isn't just about technology; we are a driver for sustainable change, contributing to a positive transformation around the globe. Our hardware already helped eliminate a whopping 430,000 kg of food waste, and we’re just getting started!

As Orbisk's Embedded Software Engineer you get to work on the face of the company - literally. Because our Orbi-device is where it all starts and the most important component within our customer’s kitchens. As Orbisk's Embedded Software Engineer, you will be responsible for improving and maintaining the software running on our embedded devices.

While our software development team focuses on the backend, frontend, and cloud infrastructure - the hardware team handles hardware engineering, assembly manuals, quality control procedures, and testing procedures. You will serve as the critical link between these two teams, ensuring seamless integration and operation. Parts of your weekly routine will be working on new features, planned tickets, troubleshooting and making structural device improvements.

What you bring to the chef's table

+ Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
+ 3-5 years of experience in embedded software engineering, microcontroller programming using languages like C and C++, communicating with sensors and wireless interfaces.+ In-depth knowledge of the Linux operating system.+ Proficient in higher level programming languages like Golang and GUI frameworks like Qt or GTK.+ Comfortable in working with hardware, electronics and PCBAs. Excellent knowledge of troubleshooting and systematically identifying hardware defects and suggesting improvements to the hardware engineering team.+ Fluency in English is required, both verbally and written.

Why join Orbisk?
For a whole menu of reasons. Some lofty (reducing food waste also reduces our collective CO2 and H2O footprints), others more down-to-earth. After all, joining a scale-up that disrupts an entire industry is also plain fun. And a great conversation starter. Especially if that team is as driven and adventurous as ours. We also offer you:

  • €4.500 - 5.500 gross p/m (depending on knowledge and experience).

  • 32-40 hour work week in a hybrid office setting.

  • To take a break to recharge, we encourage you to take 30 days of annual leave per year (based on full time).

  • To ensure you are taken care of later on, we have a pension contribution of 7%.

  • Everyone has different needs when it comes to benefits. That’s why we offer you a YourCampus flexible spending budget of € 40 per month. This includes access to various health, wellness and lifestyle providers, for example, Classpass, Hellofresh, Swapfiets and more!

  • On top of this, all employees receive a free Headspace subscription.

  • To support your learning and growth, we offer an annual personal education budget of €500. But we also organize additional team learning activities and if needed provide access to career coaches.

  • An annual home office budget of €250 is offered, so you can create a nice work from home space, as well as a travel allowance for when you work from home.

  • We make sure we regularly organize company activities to connect and have fun with your colleagues.

Orbisk is a start-up with a clear mission: to make the global food system more sustainable. The start-up provides complete insights into the food flows of hospitality organizations. Orbisk does this by offering a smart camera and scale that uses image recognition to register which food is thrown away, when, and in what quantity. The customer can view this data in the dashboard, which provides insight into food wastage and can be used to reduce it.
