Job Responsibilities
Develop and continuously improve backend applications and APIs using Node.js, TypeScript and a bit of Python. Maintain and align the vision for the software development with the other developers. Seek opportunities to enhance the product and development processes.The Team StructureComposition: NU.nl has four development teams. Each team consists of several backend, frontend, iOS and Android developers, a dedicated tester, scrum master and product owner.Work Method: Agile sprints of 2 weeks, collaborative efforts across editorial, marketing, IT, and product teams.Culture: Ambitious, talented team with a focus on passion and pleasure in their work.

What are you going to do?

Your main focus will be to take a central role in the development and continuous improvement of our Node.JS application and APIs that serve our web, Android and iOS front-ends. While doing active development, you ensure a shared vision and alignment on the direction of development.

These platform improvements will enable us to bring important news faster and more targeted to our readers. It will also help us to involve our readers more and make it more relevant and meaningful to them.

Specifically, you will:

Design and Implement Scalable APIs: Develop robust, scalable, and secure APIs that support our web, Android, and iOS applications, ensuring seamless integration and performance.

Optimize Performance: Continuously monitor and optimize the performance of our backend services to ensure fast and efficient delivery of news content to millions of users.

Maintain High Code Quality: Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code, adhering to best practices and industry standards.

Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with front-end developers, designers, product owners, and other stakeholders to align on project goals, share knowledge, and deliver cohesive solutions.

Innovate and Improve: Identify and implement opportunities for system enhancements, leveraging new technologies and methodologies to improve our platform's functionality and user experience.

Ensure Security and Compliance: Implement security best practices and ensure compliance with data protection regulations to safeguard user information and maintain platform integrity.

Mentor and Guide: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers, fostering a collaborative and learning-focused environment.

Automate and Streamline Processes: Utilize CI/CD tools and practices to automate deployment processes, ensuring smooth and rapid delivery of updates and features.
