THE ROLE

As the Design Engineer within the Proposals team, you play a key part in the delivery of the tender package at Damen Naval. You will be responsible for developing naval architecture design solutions into a set of requirements during precontract activities. Working within the technical team of a tender, you will collaborate closely with the Tender Manager, Proposal Engineer, Draftsman and Manager Naval, Structures & Outfitting to support the technical definition of Damen Naval offers. Your role will be instrumental realizing the best overall design solution for our naval projects.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

As the Design Engineer Naval Architecture, your key responsibilities will include:

• Perform design and reporting activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
• Contribute to requirements analysis, concept generation, general system architecture, weight and power estimations, identification and evaluation of design options, design of structures, arrangements, accommodation layout and specification and main ship balances.
• Evaluate designs against requirements and prepare corresponding reports.
• Write technical documents, equipment specifications, contract specifications, and reports, effectively communicating complex concepts and data.
• Facilitate communication with stakeholders to gather input and ensure alignment on technical solutions.
• Participate in discussions with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders on technical aspects of proposed solutions.
• Support cost evaluations provided by suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Collaborate with internal departments to optimize project outcomes.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

To excel as Design Engineer Naval Architecture, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:

• Bachelor or Master degree in Naval Architecture or a related field.
• Experience in naval architecture, preferably in complex new built naval ships.
• Expertise in a variety of design concepts and practices, including technologically advanced design and proposal processes.
• Good command of the Dutch and English language both written and verbal.
• Excellent references antecedents as a pre-employment security screening is standard part of the recruitment procedure.
• Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required and candidates with NL/EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
