Take the helm as an HR Advisor in our Ship Management Department. We are dedicated to attracting and retaining high-quality, motivated, and engaged crew and staff. Are you ready to support us in achieving this goal? Then anchor your career with us!

The position

As an HR Advisor within the Ship Management Department (SMD), you will play a crucial role in offering comprehensive HR advice and operational support to our crewing team, who maintain close contact with the crews on our ships. Your primary responsibility is to ensure timely and compliant execution of HR policies and processes, ensuring our onboard personnel feel seamlessly integrated into the organization.

Dive into the heart of HR as you handle the complexities of absenteeism, ensuring adherence to both local and international employment conditions, including payroll, and compliance with the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC). You will be performing operational HR tasks as well as providing advise directly to crew members and your colleagues from the crewing team.

If you're seeking a career where you can advise on and execute HR matters, implement and co-develop HR initiatives in the maritime industry, seize this opportunity to act as an expert in our challenging yet rewarding HR landscape. Join us as we set sail towards an exciting future!

As we navigate the future, you will proactively support the activities linked to the HR cycle. Additionally, working with the HR Group, you will be part of the implementation of Workday and contribute to our journey towards HR excellence for the upcoming years.

Your responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing support in employee relations, ensuring all advice aligns with HR policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Collaborating closely with HR Operations to ensure efficient, compliant, and effective HR services from job offer acceptance to employee offboarding.
  • Advising on individual employee relations, encompassing areas such as absence, well-being, engagement, complaints, performance issues, disciplinary actions, and personal development.
  • Collaborating with the HR team to enhance processes and create an optimal working environment for our employees.

Your work environment

Your role extends beyond the office environment – you will occasionally visit projects and/or ships, engage in crucial conversations, and immerse yourself in the maritime environment.

In our quest for a new HR Advisor to join our team, we are seeking an HR professional who is approachable, action-oriented, and service-focused, ready to navigate the challenges of the maritime industry. Your ability to uncover the 'question behind the question' is your compass, demonstrating your intuitive understanding of human dynamics. Balancing sensitivity with resilience, you're not afraid to navigate the waters of difficult conversations. Embracing a roll-up-your-sleeves mentality, you recognize that success often requires hands-on dedication.

Job requirements

Your credentials should include:

  • Relevant diploma (Bachelor's/Master's).
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant HR advisor work experience in a complex international project organization.
  • Knowledge of employment law.

We offer

We offer you a position in which you will have an important contribution to our mission 'building a better world for future generations'. In addition, we offer you:

  • A salary that matches your responsibilities and experience;
  • Travel allowance (€0.31 per km) and home office allowance (€2,15 per day);
  • 32 leave days per year;
  • Variable bonus;
  • Pension scheme;
  • Collective health insurance (optional);
  • Flexible working from home policy, 2 days a week when working on a full-time basis;
  • Extensive learning and (personal) development possibilities, including a wide range of online courses via Goodhabitz;
  • You can join communities, like Young Van Oord, Van Oord Women and the Van Oord staff association;
  • We organise several (sport) events, e.g. winter sport, weekend of sailing, cycling and a motorcycle tour.
