The ocean team works closely with our operations supplier, Maersk Supply Service, with whom we maintain a ‘one team’ philosophy in pursuit of the mission objective. Within operations, we ensure safety, performance, efficiency, and quality in our work in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and beyond and form an essential link between on- and offshore teams.
“We are looking for a driven and dedicated Operations Manager to support the teams on the front line of The Ocean Cleanup’s work. Taking in a wide range of activities from inception to execution, this person can deliver real results on our mission's ‘front line.’”Glen Kissack- Head of Operations, Oceans.

THE ASSIGNMENT
  • Coordination of safe, efficient, and effective offshore activities:
    • In advance of operations, this includes preparing instructions for the offshore teams, drafting documentation, and quality-checking the information provided.
    • During operations, this includes close monitoring, checking and distributing feedback, and maintaining positive and effective communications. As the operation runs and requires support to be available 24/7, this includes some work outside of standard hours, covered on a rotational basis.
  • Co-ordination of port calls and associated on-shore activities:
    • In advance, this includes operational planning, assessment of required resources and working with supply chain, logistics, and procurement teams, as well as support for crewing and travel.
    • During port calls, this includes monitoring and intervention as required to ensure deliverables are met at high quality, on schedule and within budget. This includes work outside of ‘standard’ working hours covered on a rotational basis and may include international travel to attend calls
  • HSE management, including maintaining emergency response protocols and planning for contingency scenarios.
  • Processing and forwarding feedback on the status and performance of offshore equipment, ranging from components of the retention system to offshore IT infrastructure.
  • Ensuring quality in administration and record-keeping, including maintaining externally audited logs and evidence relating to plastic catch.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3- 5 years of experience in marine operations management. On a case-by case basis, offshore work may be considered as part of this.
  • Preferred, 5 years of offshore work in an operational or engineering role, including 2 years in a senior management /supervisory capacity. Ideally to include work on project vessels, and ideally to include towing operations or related work.
  • Project management experience including creation of planning documentation, evaluation and allocation of required resources, financial forecasting, and creation of supporting documentation.
  • Experience with marine engineering such as the design and safe application of lifting and rigging arrangements.
  • Experience working with HSE and quality-management systems in the offshore industry at a management level or in a training capacity.
  • Good IT skills, preferably with experience in data collection or management, and fluency in remote working including through MS Office.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • A strong affinity with the ambitious and meaningful goal of our organization.
  • Exceptional qualities of engagement and ownership as a ‘self-starter’.
  • Highly developed organizational skills and a structured, disciplined approach to work.
  • The ability to respond to dynamic situations with flexibility and to creatively approach technical and logistical challenges with an open mind, balancing theory and pragmatism.
  • Excellent spoken and written English language skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder and interface management abilities and general communication skills working internally and externally with both on- and offshore team members.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
  • Starting date: As soon as possible;
  • Location: The role is based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
