Industrial Design Internship – Industry X ▪ Environmental Innovation

THE WORK

At Industry X (IX) we work in the world of Research & Development, Product Design & Engineering, Connected Devices, Manufacturing & Operations or Smart Services. As an intern at Industry X, you will become a consultant and will join the IX intern team. This particular assignment you will do as part of our Industrial Design team (formerly known as VanBerlo), they design physical products and digital experiences. As an Industrial Design intern, you will have the chance to work with and learn from our creative & technical experts, as well as the opportunity to hone your skills while working on a variety of real-life projects.

Team(s)

• You’ll be part of our group of more than 70 creatives, including industrial designers, design engineers, UX/digital designers, strategists, researchers, developers, and project managers.
• You will be a full member of our multidisciplinary project teams assembled depending on the projects running.
• We are based in Eindhoven and The Hague and work closely together between both studio spaces. You will work from one office, traveling to the other office occasionally and visit other Accenture offices in Amsterdam or Rotterdam.
• You will get a dedicated mentor to help you define your learning goals and find the projects that suit you and your goals best.

Daily tasks

As an intern at Industry X, you will work in collaboration with Industry X experts to conduct your (thesis) research and assignment in one of the relevant research areas listed below. Key is that your thesis will research challenges or opportunities we see at our clients and that new business solutions or opportunities can be defined based on the input of IX experts. During your internship you’ll connect with many Industry X colleagues from Accenture and gain a valuable insight into the world of strategy & consulting.

Research

• This research topic is all around saving the environment! And we have multiple ways to do so. Your research will be focused on 2 areas; Supporting our partner FREE Nature in the preservation and restauration of Dutch ecosystems. Or secondly a wildlife park in South Africa where we want to support them in reducing the amount of Rhino poaching. In short, we have 3 distinct topics you can work on:
• Develop and support making an (Digital) Ecological Twin out of a nature reserve. This would include vegetation, water, elevation, animals and animal behavior and more. This is to simulate how animals will behave when these areas are flooded, and which animals are best suited to new plots of land in order to, for example, keep the vegetation short.
• Create a VisionAI threat assessment based on CCTV camera footage of potential ‘poachers’ or any potentially criminal activity. Cameras are set up around the reserve and in the greater area around it to detect suspicious behavior long before it reaches the park. They already have a link to the police database to check if vehicles are stolen or belong to criminals, but we want to add more use cases on top of this that could classify each vehicle nearby according to a ‘RAG / Red Amber Green’ classification based on an AI visual assessment.
• Utilize mobile phone / telecom / LORA technologies to track suspicious persons in the neighborhood that for example have visited ‘blacklisted’ locations (such as foreign embassies or other locations known for selling rhino horn). Based on the tracking of cell phones we can set up an early warning system. Or alternatively, a retrospective analysis on where the poacher has gone, to find the buyers/distributors as well.

• You are nearing completion of your master's at a Dutch University and are searching for work experience within the field of Industry X.
• You are excited about sustainability and want to be involved in impact-driven innovation that helps find solutions through technology and design that will have a positive result on the environment and society.
• You speak fluent English and/or Dutch (spoken and written).
• You’re interested in starting a career in the field of consulting and digital business transformations.
• You are a team player; you are professional and precise.
• You can work independently and have a hands-on proactive mentality.

• Experience on Digital Twin, in combination with environmental surroundings.
