We are seeking a highly capable Head of Technology Development to lead our talented team of engineers and drive the development of next-generation products and technologies within the haircare category.

Role Overview

As the Head of Technology Development, you will be responsible for leading a large team of highly talented engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, and driving the development of cutting-edge products and technologies within the haircare category. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful delivery of products that exceed customer expectations.

As a key people leader, you will develop the teams’ capabilities in line with the long-term business needs: recruiting, coaching, and developing our people whilst simultaneously building the supporting infrastructure in our processes and our toolsets. You will create and drive forward the department’s long-term vision, including annual goals and objectives, and take accountability for the quality and timeliness of your teams’ delivery.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Build and lead a team of skilled engineers, providing clear guidance, mentorship, and support to drive their professional growth.
  • Functional Strategy: Develop and execute the technology development strategy for the haircare category, aligning it with the overall business objectives. Lead with vision and passion, inspiring your team to embrace and drive change. Influence the broader organizational strategy with a forward-thinking approach.
  • Innovation and Research: Drive continuous innovation through development of new technologies and processes to enhance product performance and customer experience. Foster a culture of experimentation and creativity in solving problems within the team.
  • Highly Accountable: Accountable for the team’s delivery of work packages to milestone timelines, ensuring they are always delivered with high levels of quality & technical rigour. Provide sound technical leadership and guidance in haircare product development.
  • Key Leader: Play a key role in the RDD leadership community whilst encouraging collaboration between functions and leading teams with a ‘Dyson’ mindset. Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to ensure efficiency and effective cross functional ways of working.
  • Functional Management: Develop and manage budgets, timelines, and resources to ensure successful and timely delivery of projects. Identify and mitigate risks to minimize project delays. Attract, recruit and retain talent. Manage performance and develop our people.
  • Sound Technical Capability: Lead the team with technical credibility, by demonstrated a robust and broad engineering skillset. Experience in fields such as CAE, Fluid Dynamics, Acoustics, Structural Analysis, and Product Performance is preferred.
  • Core Engineering Processes: Understand and be able to apply core engineering process relevant to product development, such as system level FMEA, tolerance analysis and others.

Performance Management: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the success and impact of technology development initiatives. Regularly evaluate and report on team performance, project progress, and results achieved.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Proven experience in product and technology development, preferably within the consumer goods industry or related sectors.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, managing and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to translate business objectives into actionable technology strategies.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on driving innovation and delivering results.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
