Job description

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our growing Security Engineering & Operations team at ORTEC.

About the Team

Our Security Engineering & Operations Team is currently in its initial stages, evolving from several decentralized security specialists to a central team responsible for managing security for the entire organization. As a central communication point, the team plays a crucial role in coordinating security efforts and ensuring a unified approach to safeguarding our systems and data. The team will manage the security posture and tools of the several internal departments like the IT department, cloud hosted customer environments and the development departments. This team is part of the broader security department, working closely with the Security Assurance & Risk Management team to ensure comprehensive security measures are in place. Currently, we have two full-time Security Incident Response Team (SIRT) members, two Information Security Officers and a team leader in the team. We are looking to extend the team with technical engineers to enhance our dedicated security knowledge.

Responsibilities

As a Security Engineer, you are responsible for:

  • Protect systems owned or maintained by ORTEC, including networks, devices, and applications, whether physical, virtual, or cloud based.
  • Safeguard internal as well as customer-facing data owned by ORTEC or ORTEC's customers against cybersecurity threats.
  • Implement measures to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems and data.
  • Manage the security tools and technical policies within the organization.
  • Ensure visibility in systems and applications, gaining insight into IT architecture, IT assets and Software assets.
  • Conduct threat detection using EDR, our Security Operations Center, Azure Security Center, vulnerability scanning tools and more.
  • Perform technical compliance checks and coordinate based on specific agreements with system and application owners.
  • Work with the Security Incident Response Team to coordinate response to security incidents and threats.
  • Make decisions on priorities and urgency of security measures and incident responses.
  • Pro-active daily checks on new relevant vulnerabilities published at well-known external sources.
  • Coordinate vulnerability management through (external) penetration tests.
  • Establish deadlines for mitigating measures and define technical security policies and procedures in collaboration with internal stakeholders.

Organization

The central Security Team is the responsibility of the overarching IT, Software and Security department. Our Security Engineering & Operations Team is currently in its initial stages and departments (internal infrastructure and cloud based) and developers to optimize the security posture of our organization.

Who are you

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in IT or other relevant studies and/or experience.
  • You are proactive and motivated to keep ORTEC secure and to improve our security where needed.
  • At least 3 years of proven experience in operational security.
  • In-depth knowledge of IT architecture, IT assets, and technical compliance checks.
  • Understanding of EDR, SOC, Azure Security Center, and vulnerability scanning tools.
  • Ability to make decisions on security priorities, urgency, and incident responses.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CSSP, CEH, CISM, or CompTIA Security+ are a plus.
  • Software development experience is a plus.
  • It is required to be able to speak and write the English language well.
  • Required to regularly participate in the 24/7 on-call availability service.
