Kick off your career in the process industry (chemicals, energy, food, pharma) in Delft. As an Engineering Doctorate (EngD) trainee in Process and Equipment Design at the world-class institute TU Delft. Apply now!

Job description

Join a unique programme, where you can apply your technical knowledge to projects with major players in the process industry at a doctorate level.

Our Engineering Doctorate (EngD) programme in (Product-driven) Process and Equipment Design will train you to design fit-for-purpose, first-of-its-kind products, processes and equipment. In addition to deepening and broadening your knowledge, you will learn about multi-disciplinary problem-solving, project management and functioning in multicultural teams. You’ll also gain expertise in process development, conceptual design and engineering. In your first year, you’ll follow advanced courses in engineering and gamma disciplines and you’ll participate in a group design project. During your second year, you’ll execute an individual design project at, or in close collaboration with, a partner in the process industry. Here’s where your industrial and academic knowledge will truly be tested as you apply it in the real world. Our projects cover product, process and/or equipment design in the areas of oil & gas, energy, base & specialty chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and the food industry.

You’ll be working in an inspiring international scientific ecosystem with fellow trainees from all over the world. If all goes well, this two-year position will lead to an Engineering Doctorate degree, focused on integrating several disciplines to innovatively design processes and process equipment. This expertise is in demand and you’ll enjoy great prospects for a professional future career in the Dutch and international industries.

Requirements

Fascinated by process design and development and the application of technology, you’re seeking a career in the process industry (chemicals, energy, food, pharma). Hungry for European work experience, you’re looking to study and work in an ambitious international team. Your English is excellent, of course, and you have an open, creative mind and a critical attitude.

You also have:

  • A MSc Degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering or Physical Technology.
  • Alternatively, a MSc Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Sustainable Energy Technology with a specialisation related to chemical engineering, such as industrial process equipment and energy systems.
  • Or, a MSc degree in Applied Earth Sciences, with a specialisation in raw material processing or petroleum engineering.
  • Another relevant qualification, within the discretion of the Selection Committee.

Conditions of employment

The successful candidate will receive a 1-year contract from the Delft University of Technology with a 1-year extension and a gross monthly salary of €2,618.- for 40 hours per week. TU Delft’s benefits and other employment conditions follow the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. We offer a customisable compensation package, discounts for health insurance and sports memberships, and a monthly work cost contribution.
