Mission to Metrics

To rid the world’s oceans of plastic, we rely on people across the globe — supporters who donate, apply, partner, and help spread our message. In this internship, you’ll help us strengthen these connections: making it easier for people to find us, support us, and stay engaged through every digital touchpoint.

“At The Ocean Cleanup, things move fast — our technology evolves, our story evolves, and so do the ways we engage our supporters. You’ll get to experiment, learn, and make a real impact along the way.”

Erika Träskvik, Head of Digital Marketing

Responsibilities

As a Digital Marketing Intern, you will be involved in many new and ongoing projects to improve donor management, UX/conversion optimization, Google Ads, data analysis, email strategy, and much more. You will support the Head of Digital Marketing in executing these projects, getting valuable hands-on experience from a non-profit organization with a strong global following. We take a data-driven approach to assess how these different efforts impacted supporter numbers, including conversion rate, churn rate, and satisfaction score.

Professional Qualifications

  • Ongoing Bachelor/Master’s degree, in fields such as marketing or communications
  • Fluent in English
  • Previous experience in digital communication and/or marketing is a big plus
  • Experience with CRM- and CMS systems, Photoshop/InDesign, Google Analytics, Google AdWords, surveys, and/or social media advertisement are also a big plus but not a requirement

Personal Qualifications

  • Curious and eager to learn
  • Great communicator and writer
  • The ability to see things from the “customer’s” side
  • Good negotiator: can align well with multiple stakeholders to get approval or input for projects
  • Strategic and can zoom out to the bigger picture
  • Can challenge the status quo and dare to look for improvement
  • Action-oriented and driven to see your ideas come to life

Additional Details

  • Starting date: Fall semester, 2026
  • Work Permit Needed: Dutch Work Permit or EU passport
  • Duration: 5-6 months

Note: This internship would not be suitable for those who need to write a thesis as part of their internship.
