APG is seeking a highly motivated and experienced (Associate) Director Infrastructure to join its Global Infrastructure team. This is a strategic role offering a unique opportunity to become part of APG’s growing global infrastructure portfolio by contributing to asset management and the build-out of its portfolio companies.

Dit wordt je functie

You will lead and work with asset management teams and portfolio companies to operationalize best practices, enhance long-term value creation and implement sustainability strategy as shareholder and as non-executive board member across various portfolio companies. You will be leveraging your expertise and APG Infrastructure’s best practices to bring companies to the next level of sustainable performance.

Furthermore, you will contribute to the origination of new bolt-on transactions to expand portfolio companies, aligned with the long-term strategy across various infrastructure subsectors. You will be responsible for leading investment teams and workstreams from lead stage up to closing, including extensive due diligence processes, valuation, strategy, financing, and negotiation of legal documentation.

As part of a high-performing team managing over €30 billion in assets with a mandate to double this asset base, you will play a central role in advancing APG’s Global Infrastructure strategy across a diverse and evolving infrastructure portfolio. This is a high-impact role for professionals eager to influence how global infrastructure assets are managed, to deliver both financial performance and positive outcomes for society and the environment.

What you would do

Asset Management:

  • Represent APG as shareholder and non-executive board member across various portfolio companies to drive value creation, good governance, sustainability initiatives, operationalize best practices, and foster interaction with executive management.
  • Take full accountability for financial, operational, and ESG performance of portfolio assets.
  • Set and oversee value creation plans, including operational improvement, capex programs, refinancing, and exit readiness. Drive proactive identification of value enhancement and risk mitigation initiatives.
  • Lead bolt-on investment opportunities and M&A consolidation efforts of portfolio companies.
  • Monitor performance versus underwriting, business plans, and KPIs.
  • Lead engagement with management teams, co-investors, lenders, regulators, and key stakeholders.
  • Support ESG efforts across portfolio companies, including implementing and monitoring net-zero and EU SFDR regulation, and support the APG Infrastructure Research & Analytics team by providing data input and insights to enable informed decision-making, transparency and accountability across the portfolio.

Origination/Divestments:

  • Originate selected (semi)proprietary infrastructure investment opportunities.
  • Lead deal teams, with a focus on bolt-on investment opportunities, consolidation strategies, and selected divestments of existing portfolio companies, executing the whole investment process whilst ensuring risk management, legal and ESG considerations are onboarded.
  • Lead or oversee due diligence and negotiations across commercial, financial, legal, technical, tax, and ESG workstreams.
  • Ensure disciplined underwriting and alignment with portfolio construction objectives.
  • Act as senior sponsor towards Theme/Sector Leads and in investment committee processes.
  • Build and maintain senior relationships with infrastructure developers, corporates, advisors, banks, and public stakeholders.

Thought leadership:

  • Contribute to APG’s Global Infrastructure strategy and specifically to theme strategies, by providing sector views, identifying emerging trends and bringing thematic focus.
  • Translate market insights into actionable investment opportunities.
  • Act as a coach and mentor to guide the team in adhering to a strong investment philosophy and process. Foster team culture, growth and strategic alignment.
  • Represent APG Infrastructure towards APG investment committees, peer investors, portfolio company management teams, and other senior external stakeholders.
  • Represent the organization at industry conferences, panels, and investor forums.
  • Set the tone for professional excellence, integrity, and collaboration.
  • Promote a performance-driven yet responsible investment culture.
  • Play a direct key role in nurturing APG Infrastructure success towards clients.

What you bring

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
  • A completed postgraduate professional program, such as CFA, CAIA or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated strong track record as non-executive board member across infrastructure companies.
  • 10–15+ years of relevant investment experience, with a proven track record in infrastructure, real assets, private markets, or adjacent long-term investment strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead asset management or end-to-end deal ownership of infrastructure investments, including buy-and-build bolt-on and consolidation strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex stakeholder environments, including influencing boards, senior management teams, and co-investors to drive performance.
  • In-depth understanding of financial modelling, valuation, documentation, and investment structuring across the asset lifecycle.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English, and possibly in other European languages.
  • Experience in an institutional investor, private equity, infrastructure fund, pension fund, or strategic investor environment is highly desirable.
  • Experience in opex/capex planning, engineering, integration plays, or restructuring is a plus.

Personal Attributes:

  • Analytical and strategic thinker with strong execution capability and a solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Sound commercial judgement, able to balance risk, return, and responsibility.
  • Comfortable making decisions under uncertainty and managing complexity.
  • Strong team player who actively fosters a culture of trust, openness, and shared ownership, balancing strong individual accountability with collective outcomes.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and interpersonal skills, including engagement with boards, co-investors and industry bodies.
  • Highly organized, collaborative, adaptable, and resilient in a dynamic regulatory and investment environment.
  • Deep commitment to value creation, sustainability and continuous professional development.

Language Skills:

  • Fluent English is required; Dutch or other languages are optional but valued.
