To strengthen our Future Fit Workforce, we are looking for a Datacenter Engineer who combines solid Datacentre & networking knowledge with hands-on experience in physical install & decom activities. In this role, you will be responsible for the racking, stacking and (network) patching of IT equipment so ABN AMRO can timely deliver the IT systems needed to provide IT services to the bank. You will work closely with network engineers, product owners, architects and service managers to ensure that delivery is done according to system requirements. You will also support break-fix of IT equipment by guiding data rooms for 3rd party engineers or by executing break-fix yourself on IT equipment in a 24x7 stand-by schedule.

Your job

Your responsibilities are the following:

  • Support and maintain physical Asset and Configuration Management for IT equipment and/or platforms.
  • Own and improve the CMDB for Datacenter configuration items, ensuring data quality, accuracy and completeness.
  • Work with engineering teams to install, move, add or remove IT equipment at the data rooms.
  • Work with engineering teams on IT network patching to IT equipment.
  • Clean configurations of IT equipment for safe removal.
  • Assist 3rd party engineering teams to the right location in data rooms.
  • Perform 24x7 stand-by support in a weekly shift to ensure IT equipment availability at data rooms.

Working environment

The Networks & Datacenter (NW&DC) Engineering department is part of Platform & Technology (P&T) within ABN AMRO. P&T delivers a standardized, secure and always-on IT landscape that supports thousands of applications and DevOps teams. Foundation focuses mainly on Operations and Service Management, while the Engineering focus area drives technology roadmaps. Both focus areas work closely together to achieve the Network & Datacenter vision and mission.

Within NW&DC Engineering, we design, operate and continuously improve the bank’s enterprise network landscape across Datacentres, cloud platforms, office locations and remote environments. Alongside technical excellence, strong foundational IT and service management processes are essential to ensure transparency, reliability and regulatory compliance.

If you join at this time, you will contribute while our network landscape is undergoing a fundamental transformation. You will help build automated, self-service and API-driven network services, a key element of our engineering strategy. You will learn from experienced engineers while getting room to experiment, innovate and build. Your work has direct impact: what you automate will be used by thousands of developers and platform teams. You will work in one of the bank’s most critical 24x7 IT domains — complex, challenging and valuable for your growth.

Your profile

You are a hands-on, no-nonsense professional with a strong interest in Datacenter and networking. You describe yourself as a team player and you get the job done. You also understand that well-managed services are just as important as well-designed technology. Furthermore, you recognize yourself in the following hard skills:

  • General knowledge of ITIL.
  • General knowledge of enterprise networking / Datacenter services.
  • Hands-on experience with install & decom of IT equipment.
