Join the Cross Market Analysis and Intelligence Division in the Directorate General Market Operations as a Financial Market Expert.

Your team

You will be part of the Cross Market Analysis and Intelligence Division in the Directorate General Market Operations.

The ECB’s Directorate General Market Operations ensures that monetary policy decisions are implemented and appropriately reflected in the financial markets. It does so by conducting Eurosystem monetary policy and foreign exchange operations. It is also the ECB’s “eyes and ears” in the financial markets, monitoring and studying financial market developments and gathering market intelligence to inform analysis and assessments. The Directorate General also develops and maintains the Eurosystem monetary policy implementation framework.

In your role as a Financial Market Expert in the Cross Market Analysis and Intelligence Division, you will be part of a team of around 25-30 experts, research analysts and trainees responsible for monitoring, analysing and reporting on recent and structural developments and trends in financial markets, with a particular focus on their implications for monetary policy implementation and the functioning of euro area financial markets. The Division coordinates market intelligence activities across the Directorate General Market Operations and acts as a hub for in-depth horizontal market analysis, policy impact assessments, and the development and adoption of a common analytical toolkit.

Your role

  • Help shape key cross-divisional and cross-market analysis for the ECB’s decision-making bodies, including notes and regular presentations that advance the understanding of financial markets.
  • Contribute to internal and external reports, briefings and presentations by providing analytical insights and expertise.
  • Analyse financial market functioning, market structure and the implications for monetary policy implementation.
  • Carry out your own analytical work, developing and using quantitative tools and data analytics in close collaboration with other members of the team as well as experts across the Directorate General and from other ECB business areas.
  • Engage and collaborate with colleagues across the ECB and Eurosystem national central banks and develop and maintain contacts with a broad range of market participants.

The position offers excellent opportunities to shape the financial market analysis that is central to the ECB’s policy decisions. You will have a chance to pursue analytical projects that directly address topical policy-related issues, while also advancing innovative analysis that improves the understanding of financial market functioning and the design of monetary policy implementation. You will also contribute to high-profile products for the ECB’s decision-making bodies. You will work in a dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment that provides a unique platform for professional growth, strategic impact, and collaboration with leading experts in the field. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential

  • A master’s degree or equivalent in economics, finance or another relevant field.
  • In addition to the above, a minimum of four years’ relevant professional experience (excluding internships and traineeships) in financial market analysis.
  • A very good understanding of financial markets and the euro area financial system, particularly market structure and functioning.
  • Sound data analysis and analytical skills as well as the ability to plan and pursue analytical projects that directly address topical policy-related issues.
  • An innovative mindset and a willingness to deploy creative and novel solutions.
  • An advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired

  • A track record of relevant policy or academic publications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to identify policy-relevant information in complex technical analyses and translate it into accessible communication for a wide range of audiences.
  • Experience in working on projects and processes involving multiple stakeholders.

You engage collaboratively with others. You pursue team goals and learn willingly from other people’s diverse perspectives. You signal any need for change by explaining it and proposing alternative solutions. You analyse complex information effectively and can evaluate different views to arrive at solutions. You know and anticipate stakeholder needs.

You are motivated to contribute to the ECB’s mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe. You are motivated to be part of the team and to develop and use your skills and competencies to achieve the aims of this position.

Working modalities

To enable the Division to maintain its business continuity capability, you will occasionally be expected to perform work during non-standard working hours and work at the ECB’s standby sites. A part-time arrangement can be discussed for this role.

Further information

The contract offered will be fixed-term, non-convertible, for a duration of 14 months from the starting date.
