Internship opportunity in Wholesale Banking Sector Coverage (Telecom, Media, Technology & Healthcare)

Full-time internship in the Wholesale Banking Sector Coverage Telecom, Media, Technology & Healthcare team

ING’s Wholesale Bank and Sector Organization

ING is a global bank with a strong European base. ING’s Wholesale Bank helps companies, institutions, and governments to gain access to capital in support of their ambitions, success and further growth. We provide various services and products such as M&A & Capital Structuring Advisory, Financials Markets products, daily payment and cash management services, and finance a variety of assets throughout the seven sectors in which we’re organized. Through an internship within ING’s Sector organization, you’ll have the opportunity to get to know ING, a specific sector and some of the main companies within it, the services ING provides to them and what it is like to be a full-time banker. The internship will help you explore whether a career in banking and financial services is the right next step for you.

The Team

The Telecom, Media, Technology & Healthcare Sector Coverage team offers an exciting position in Amsterdam for an ambitious student who enjoys working in an international environment. The TMT & Healthcare sector team is one of the global specialist sector coverage teams at the heart of ING Wholesale Banking. We provide banking services and structure complex financing solutions (debt and debt advisory) to telecommunication, media, entertainment, technology, satellite, and healthcare companies in the EMEA region, the Americas, and Asia-Pacific. We have a broad client suite (investment and non-investment grade companies, private equity, infrastructure funds, etc.) which means you will get exposure to corporate, acquisition, capex, and project finance financing structures. We cooperate with various other departments within ING such as Corporate Finance, Sustainable Finance, Corporate and specialized lending, Loan Distribution Group, Debt Capital Markets, Financial Markets, Transaction Services, and Risk Management.

What will your internship with TMT&H look like

The companies we cover in Amsterdam are active in the Telecommunication, Media, Entertainment, Technology, Satellite, and Healthcare sub-sectors. As an intern, you will be a member of multiple deal teams involved in transactions where you, for example, advise clients to finance data centers, fibre networks, or private hospitals. You work most closely together with team members in Amsterdam, but we also have TMT&H professionals in Frankfurt, Paris, Zurich, Madrid, Sydney, Singapore, Hong-Kong, Taiwan, Tokyo, Brussels, Milan and New York. As an intern your job will be diverse, but your main tasks consist of the below:

  • Contribute to deal origination efforts by analyzing financial information, doing market research, peer group analysis, reviewing information memorandums and/or term sheets, and/or drafting commercial proposals
  • Assist in multiproduct pitches to TMT & Healthcare clients and presentations to relevant internal and external stakeholders for e.g. subsector risk papers and deep-dive presentations
  • Assist in debt sizing, analysing different transaction (debt) structures and preparing business comparables
  • Assist in formulating client strategies and developing and maintaining close relationships with clients
  • Conduct research to support new and ongoing initiatives aimed at building sector expertise, exploring key drivers, competitors, products and macro trends
  • Support franchise growth by identifying prospective clients across the various subsectors and prepare business plan proposal(s)
  • Work closely with the senior management team and help organize client events or international (sub)sector conferences.

The complexity of the assignments, the dynamic environment combined with the international nature of the work and team will be a great start of your professional career. We aim to give you an experience that comes close to what you will be doing if you decide to pursue a career in banking.
