Internship Engineering (IT)

At HEMA, we are building an efficient and future-proof retail technology landscape. To achieve this, we are establishing a new Engineering Organization. This is your chance to help lay the technological foundation for the most iconic, nearly 100-year-old department store in the Netherlands. the challenge

During this IT Engineering internship, you’ll help develop internal tooling that enables our developers to work faster, smarter and more efficiently. You’ll be working on backend development with modern AWS cloud technologies and exploring practical applications of AI within our engineering landscape. Innovation plays a big role here, so you’ll have plenty of room to experiment, test new approaches and learn by doing.

You’ll work closely with Mauro Rallo, our Enterprise Architect, and collaborate with developers across different teams, giving you a broad understanding of our technical landscape. You’ll continuously evaluate and improve your work, contributing to projects that directly impact how software is built at HEMA.

this is what you'll bring

• You are a student in Computer Science, Informatics, Software Engineering or a similar field of study.
• You are available for a work placement or graduation internship starting September 2026.
• You are a second- or third-year student with basic programming experience; the specific languages matter less than your coding foundation and eagerness to learn new technologies.
• You master English and/or Dutch in both speech and writing.
• You are eager to learn more about DevOps and modern cloud-based development environments.
• You work independently, like to experiment, and feel comfortable exploring unknown territory.
• You have strong analytical thinking and a genuine passion for software development.
