Financial Accounting Expert | Lending & TS Accounting Services

As Accounting Expert Lending & TS Accounting Services you are responsible for the accounting processes and integrity of accounting data that enable timely and accurate preparation of the P&L and Balance Sheets for the entities in scope of COO Finance. You are an active contributor to process improvements and projects, working with colleagues in the wider Super Circle and across the Tribes.

Your role and work environment

The Chief Operations Officer (COO) domain builds bridges within ING linking to almost every part of the bank. Its purpose is to drive secure, efficient processes for our customers and colleagues.

ING wants to set up a bank-wide COO organisation that's ready for the future, with scalable, seamless, digital, and resilient operations. To help us achieve this, COO identified three main ways to make the most impact:

  • Building a network organisation: more networking and cross-border collaboration.
  • Consolidating the organisation: share capabilities and services in locations where we can best embed these.
  • Digitalisation/straight-through processing: making our processes end-to-end to provide a seamlessly digital experience for our customers.

Global COO Finance is an independent unit within ING’s COO domain, reporting hierarchically into ING’s Chief Operations Officer and functionally into ING’s Chief Financial Officer.

Global COO Finance (COOF) is accountable for designing the global finance operations and technology strategy (together with ING’s TECH organisation) and optimising productivity and customer satisfaction in Operations to improve operational efficiency. It is accountable for executing ING Finance and COO strategy to evolve towards one global digital bank, is responsible for performance of Operations, the operating model, decisions on sourcing and all relevant Regulatory and Risk topics.

Your job is to ensure accounting records are accurately maintained, discrepancies are resolved efficiently and actively contribute to process improvements, while continually providing the highest levels of service to stakeholders. You are responsible for maintaining the standards for your scope of responsibility and take responsibility for developing, innovating and safeguarding knowledge.

Responsibilities

You are responsible for the execution and integrity of accounting activities of this organisation in the Netherlands, working as a part of a team with colleagues in the Netherlands and ING Hubs (currently Manila). You adhere to risk & control activities to remain in control and keeping the bank safe, learning the product roadmap and serving stakeholders. You support the direction of the team and Circle, continually developing your knowledge of Lending, Trade Finance and Payments. A progressive mindset to digitise and simplify straight through processes will be advantageous. As an Accounting Expert, you report hierarchically to the Circle Lead Financial Accounting.

Within the COOF Service Center, the Lending & TS Accounting Services team focuses on the execution and controls within the Accounting & Reporting domain. The team is responsible for all accounting processes related to a wide range of products which the bank is offering to its clients. Lending & TS Accounting Services plays a vital role in maintaining up-to-date financial accounts and compliance for related products. It ensures timely and accurate financial information and contributes to the overall financial well-being and success of the company.

The Accounting team is also responsible for the delivery of the P&L and Balance Sheets into the different Accounting & Reporting systems of the bank. Currently the scope of the team entails around 30 entities and countries within ING where the teams are responsible for meeting agreed service levels and continuous improvement of the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the services.

Your key responsibilities

  • Deliver operations according to agreed service levels, while staying safe, reliable and compliant on your services.
  • Continuously look for ways to improve and deliver best in class service to stakeholders.
  • Responsible for Accounting services including involvement in improvement initiatives.
  • Cross-circle & outside Global Services oriented work with various stakeholders to make sure the financial close process runs as smooth as possible.
  • Identify Data Quality issues and follow up on these with the different departments.
  • Make the Accounting service and controls more generic and reusable, avoiding exceptions.
  • Exemplify the “Orange” behaviours (values of ING) and convey this to your direct colleagues.
  • Support onboarding, ad-hoc requests and change projects.
  • Ensure SOX compliance and alignment with Minimum Standards, and cover together with the control roles all audit-related items that are key to the quality of the service delivery.
  • Identify and manage stakeholders (both internal as external), finding out their needs/issues/concerns and reacting to these to support the communication of business information and decisions.

What you bring

  • University or postgraduate degree
  • 10+ years’ experience in a complex accounting environment
  • Strong expertise in Financial Accounting & Reporting (financial services)
  • Solid understanding of IFRS, regulatory frameworks, and banking policies
  • Preferably experience with Lending, Trade Finance, or Payments
  • Ability to ensure full compliance with rules and regulations
  • Strong customer focus and service mindset
  • Comfort working through change and supporting ongoing transformation

  • A salary indication tailored to your qualities and experience. The role is positioned within GJA 17 (FS11). Depending on your background and expertise, placement in a higher or smaller scale may be considered.
