Corporate Accounting Controller

Role description:

The Corporate General Accounting Manager is a key member within the Corporate Accounting function and reports to the Onshore Reporting & Accounting Director. The role partners closely with Group Reporting, Global enabling functions Controlling, Global Tax, Treasury, Procurement, HR, and Global Shared Services teams.

You will oversee all accounting operations for the Netherlands legal entities, ensuring compliance with IFRS, Dutch GAAP, Dutch tax legislation, and internal Arcadis policies. You will also play a supporting role in finance transformation initiatives, statutory reporting tool deployment, and continuous improvement of accounting processes.

This role leads a high-performing accounting organization and builds capabilities to support future growth and harmonization across Arcadis.

Role accountabilities:

Process Design & Compliance:

  • Align and implement best-in-class accounting policies, internal controls, and standardized processes in accordance with IFRS and Dutch GAAP.
  • Ensure compliance with Dutch statutory requirements, internal audit standards, and Arcadis global governance frameworks.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance on complex transactions, statutory reporting, and treasury/tax matters.
  • Support the design, enhancement, and deployment of statutory reporting tools and other financial systems globally.

Process Delivery:

  • Review and sign-off on Netherlands legal entity results, ensuring timely and accurate month-end and quarter-end close.
  • Oversee general ledger operations, journal entry controls, reconciliations, statutory reporting, and intercompany activities.
  • Lead the audit of Dutch statutory financial statements, ensuring timely completion and implementation of audit recommendations.
  • Partner with the Tax team on Dutch tax filings (VAT, CIT, WHT) and ensure compliance with local regulatory obligations (e.g., CBS).
  • Drive innovation, automation, and continuous improvement across accounting processes.
  • Oversee cash management activities and provide leadership for AP/AR and working capital initiatives.
  • Support FP&A activities and collaborate with Global FP&A teams on forecasting and reporting requirements.

People & Stakeholder Management:

  • Support and develop a multi-disciplinary offshore accounting team in the GSSC, fostering a culture of accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, group auditors, tax authorities, and internal stakeholders.
  • Influence and collaborate with Procurement, HR, and Global Shared Services to optimize processes and ensure harmonization.
  • Build future capability within the Accounting Function.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent; Chartered Qualification (CA, ACA, ACCA) preferred.
  • Extensive accounting experience with leadership of multi-functional or geographically diverse teams.
  • Strong technical expertise in IFRS and Dutch GAAP; solid understanding of Dutch tax regulations.
  • Proven ability to safeguard accounting principles and ensure compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience with ERP systems, particularly Oracle Cloud; experience in system implementations and process transformation is essential.
  • Experience working in a matrixed global organization.
  • Highly organized, results-oriented, and proactive in driving efficiency and change.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
