We are seeking an experienced Broadcast Executive Producer & Director - Rugby (MLR) with deep expertise in rugby to lead our Major League Rugby broadcast productions. This is a senior creative and operational leadership role responsible for shaping the editorial vision, storytelling, and execution of live rugby broadcasts. The ideal candidate understands the rhythm, strategy, and culture of rugby and knows how to translate the sport into compelling television for both dedicated fans and new audiences. You will oversee the full broadcast lifecycle—from editorial planning and production design to live match direction—ensuring world-class coverage that reflects the intensity, speed, and drama of professional rugby. Working closely with league partners, production crews, technical teams, and creative departments, you will lead the delivery of premium live sports broadcasts that elevate the MLR viewing experience.

The Role

Key Responsibilities

  • Broadcast Leadership & Direction: Lead the creative and editorial vision for Major League Rugby live broadcasts, directing match coverage and ensuring dynamic storytelling that captures the speed and strategy of rugby.

  • Rugby Editorial Expertise: Apply deep knowledge of rugby union—including tactics, officiating, player roles, and match flow—to inform camera coverage, replay strategy, commentary integration, and broadcast pacing.

  • Executive Production Oversight: Oversee all aspects of broadcast production, including run-of-show, graphics integration, replay workflows, talent coordination, and live broadcast execution.

  • Production Strategy & Innovation: Collaborate with league stakeholders to develop innovative broadcast formats, features, and storytelling elements that grow audience engagement and expand rugby’s reach.

  • Crew Leadership: Lead and mentor broadcast crews, including producers, technical directors, replay operators, graphics teams, and on-air talent to deliver seamless and high-quality live productions.

  • Cross-Atlantic Coordination: Work closely with production teams across the US and Europe to maintain consistent production standards and coordinate schedules across a demanding live sports calendar.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Serve as a primary production liaison with Major League Rugby leadership, teams, venues, and broadcast partners to ensure alignment on editorial priorities and production goals.

Requirements

  • Rugby Expertise – Extensive knowledge of rugby union and professional rugby broadcasting.

  • Broadcast Leadership Experience – Proven experience as a Broadcast Director, Executive Producer, or Senior Live Sports Producer.

  • Live Production Mastery – Strong understanding of live broadcast workflows including multi-camera directing, replay strategy, and graphics integration.

  • Leadership & Communication – Ability to lead large broadcast teams in high-pressure live environments.

  • Industry Network – Strong relationships within the global sports broadcast production community.

  • International Collaboration – Experience working across international production teams and complex live event schedules.

  • Experience – Significant experience in live sports broadcasting, ideally including professional rugby coverage.
