As a Senior Naval Architect, you will play a crucial role in delivering world-class yachts by performing key Naval Architecture calculations, guiding design decisions, and contributing expert insights throughout the entire project lifecycle. You ensure that every vessel meets the highest standards of safety, performance, and innovation.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary engineering team and report hierarchically to the Technical Manager Shipbuilding and functionally to the Project Manager Engineering.

Your Purpose

You perform essential naval architecture calculations to support yacht design and provide solutions and technical expertise to ongoing projects. You take responsibility for the quality of your work and proactively propose improvements whenever design results call for adjustments.

Your Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Prepare, check, and maintain weight calculations, stability calculations, and all related documentation.
  • Act as a technical sparring partner within the Engineering team and support less experienced Naval Architects.
  • Draft and review calculations for key design aspects, including:
  • Propulsion
  • Water integrity plans
  • Speed and range
  • Tank arrangements and capacities
  • Noise requirements
  • Regulatory and classification compliance
  • Other shipbuilding calculations essential to yacht construction

Documentation & Compliance

  • Prepare both preliminary and final stability booklets and guide them through approval.
  • Perform and support inclining tests, including documentation, execution, and official approval.
  • Liaise with classification societies, inspection authorities, and regulatory bodies, and follow up on resulting actions.

Sea Trials & Project Support

  • Prepare relevant Sea Acceptance Test (SAT) protocols.
  • Participate in sea trials, verifying performance and vessel characteristics.
  • Report findings clearly, accurately, and professionally.
  • Collaborate closely with other naval architects, project engineers, and multidisciplinary team members on progress, challenges, and solutions.

Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute to the standardisation and development of improved engineering practices.
  • Take the initiative to identify optimisations in methodology, processes, or documentation.

Your Profile

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture (Shipbuilding).
  • At least 5 years of experience in yacht building or related shipbuilding sectors.

Technical Skills

  • Strong command of MS Office and relevant naval architecture software tools (Max Surf).
  • Ability to make independent technical decisions within your field, aligned with project planning and in consultation with the Project Manager Engineering.

Professional Attributes

  • Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail.
  • Proactive attitude towards improving design outcomes.
  • Comfortable communicating with authorities, engineers, and project teams.
  • Fluent in Dutch and English, both written and verbal.
