Are you considering a career in the dynamic world of data & technology? The field offers countless opportunities, but understanding the personal journeys of those who have embarked on similar paths can be insightful. In this interview, we introduce you to Daphne Seignette, a Sales & Service Management Consultant at Accenture. Take a closer look at Daphne’s educational background and professional journey as she unfolds her experiences in sales and service management consultancy.
What did you do before starting at Accenture?
Before I joined Accenture, I did a bachelor’s in Public Administration and Organizational Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. As I wanted to gain experience with other cultures, I decided to study abroad in Hong Kong in the 3rd year of my bachelor’s. After my bachelor’s, I chose to do a Master’s in Business Administration with a specialization in Strategy at the University of Amsterdam. Besides my studies, I had student jobs at several companies, for instance an Operational Specialist at a start-up company and did several committees within study associations.
How are you experiencing your role so far?
Since I joined Accenture in the Sales & Service team, I had a great experience as a consultant as I’ve learned a lot in several roles at different companies. I’ve for instance worked on a project to develop a direct-to-consumer sales channel for one of our key clients. From day one, you can get a lot of autonomy and responsibilities on a project which I enjoyed as you directly contribute to the project and learn a lot by doing so. As a consultant, my day-to-day work is very dynamic and differs tremendously. Every day has different priorities ranging from client meetings, to preparing client presentations or other challenges along the way. Besides my project work, I am also part of a Commerce capability group within my team. Here we share the latest knowledge within the group and seek opportunities in the domain for our clients.
What is your experience in working for Accenture?
One of the things I genuinely value within Accenture is the people whom I work with. Within the company, we have a diverse group of people with different backgrounds and knowledge. Everyone is very open and always willing to help which truly helps when you start your first job. You build a great network with people from all over the globe and learn from all the cultures around you. The people working within Accenture are also quite young, which is a great contribution to the atmosphere in the office and events after work. We have several social events you can go to ranging from sports activities to Friday drinks at the office. The atmosphere overall is very relaxed and quite informal, which makes it for me a great place to work in.
What did you want to know before you started working as a Sales & Service Management Consultant?
One of the key things I want to share is that working as a consultant within Accenture you will learn a lot in a very short period. In the beginning, you will be thrown a bit in the deep end, but colleagues will be there to guide you in any way. You will learn a lot about our clients, new processes, or technologies. You don’t always need to have the educational or work background in for instance Technology to be able to succeed. You will have many opportunities to learn on the go from the people around you in the company. One last thing I would like to share, if you are considering working within consulting at Accenture, reach out to people working within Accenture. People are always open to having a coffee and will tell you more about what it is like to work here.
