Internship: Scaling Value Engineering Capability through Intelligent Agents
Interested in exploring how artificial intelligence can support engineers in their daily operations? At Vanderlande, we are looking to scale our Value Engineering capability using intelligent agents, while keeping expert accountability at the core. Currently, a lot of time is spent addressing recurring cost and value questions during product development. By introducing AI tools, we aim to assist Value Engineers and enable colleagues across the organization to answer these questions independently.

During this project, you will focus on two key workstreams: VE Productivity Agents for rapid cost and value assessments, and VE Self-Service Agents. You will evaluate technical feasibility, identify risks, define governance frameworks, and map out human-agent responsibilities into a clear implementation roadmap. It is a great opportunity to shape practical AI applications within an international engineering environment.

Department description

You will join the Value Engineering team, which is part of Demand Management within the Procurement department. We are a small, focused group of Value Engineers who work closely with Technology and Global Solutions teams.

Our team helps make the right decisions early in the project lifecycle to achieve cost reductions and enhance product value. Your assignment will directly contribute to making our Value Engineering support more responsive, consistent, transparent, and scalable.

Tasks/responsibilities

  • Define and prioritize VE Productivity and Self-Service Agent opportunities
  • Perform feasibility assessments and identify potential risks for agent solutions
  • Establish governance frameworks and define human-agent responsibilities
  • Create a structured roadmap for intelligent agent implementation
  • Model Value Engineering processes and conduct business analysis to uncover value opportunities
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design practical AI and automation solutions

Your profile

  • Strong interest in AI, agentic systems, and automation
  • Analytical and process-oriented mindset with systems thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently and drive tasks forward
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Exposure to or interest in Cost Engineering or Value Engineering
  • Mandatory enrolment to a Dutch Education System and resident of The Netherlands

    Bachelor: €500 per monthMaster: €550 per month
