As a Power System Dynamics Specialist, you will play a key role in translating complex system dynamics into practical operational insights for our Control Room, directly contributing to the stability of the Dutch high-voltage grid.

The electrical power system is in the middle of a transition that is significantly increasing the complexity of system operations. This change is driven by political, regulatory, environmental and technological developments. Therefore, System Operations needs to adapt and develop its operation for the challenges of today and tomorrow. Within System Operations, we are developing novel concepts and processes to ensure TenneT is prepared to operate the future power system with the same level of reliability and security as we do today.

In the team of System Resilience, you contribute directly to these solutions by identifying the needs and taking initiative for necessary developments. You promote innovation and contribute to improvements for system operations in close collaboration with many internal and external, as well as national and international, stakeholders.

The power system is evolving; synchronous generation is increasingly replaced by inverter-based resources (IBRs). This shift leads to amplified and accelerated grid dynamics and an increased need for stability monitoring in system operations to ensure grid security at all times.

Within this role, we expect you to:

• Contribute to innovative solutions for monitoring and analysing grid stability and dynamics for use in TenneT’s control room, directly contributing to the security of the Dutch and European power systems.
• Act as a specialist in dynamic grid monitoring based on PMU devices and collaborate with the modelling team on dynamic model validation.
• Contribute to grid resilience developments with advanced functionalities such as inertia and system strength monitoring and the use of wide-area equipment.
• Work closely with several departments on various stability initiatives, including System Operations, Grid Design and Onshore.
• Collaborate with relevant process owners, both within and outside System Operations, to gain a complete understanding of the challenges involved in stable future system operation.
• Participate in (inter)national working groups, such as ENTSO-E and CIGRE.

Jouw profiel & achtergrond

• Master’s degree in electrical/power system engineering (grid stability/dynamics focus or PhD is a benefit) with good understanding of power systems and/or power electronics.
• Experience with WAMS in a System Operator context and experience with power system dynamics or a comparable monitoring environment. Capability to perform modelling, testing, simulations, etc. is a benefit.
• The ability to interpret complex technical information and translate it into practical actions and recommendations.
• Experience with coding and automation/scripting (e.g., Python), or a background in PMU measurements and related technologies, is a benefit.
• You are a responsible and proactive individual with a strong work ethic. Furthermore, you are a curious person who likes technically complex topics and to be intellectually challenged.
• A positive attitude towards working in an international team; connection is key to your success, with good communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

We offer:

• A permanent contract with a two-month probation period based on 40 hours per week.
• A salary in Scale 9 ranging from €4,816 to €9,472 gross per month, plus 8% holiday allowance, 6% year-end bonus and a 70% pension contribution.
• A solid pension scheme through ABP, with TenneT covering 70% of the premium.
• 43 days of leave per year.
• Hybrid working, including travel, internet and home office allowances.
