FSO Instruments is looking for a Project Manager to manage large complex projects involving many stakeholders within a young start-up in a quickly growing market. In this role, you will help deliver cost-competitive products with cutting-edge technology and contribute to building the company.

About FSO Instruments

FSO Instruments is a young start-up joint venture that develops and supplies optical communication components, sub-systems, and terminals. The company combines the strength of Demcon and VDL ETG, inspired by TNO technologies, to help laser satellite communication take the step toward industrialization. It has a strong heritage in semiconductor and aerospace and brings this to optical communications.

At FSO Instruments, state-of-the-art technologies for laser satellite communication are industrialized through close collaboration with a large group of suppliers, alongside Demcon and VDL ETG on the engineering and manufacturing side, to achieve competitive products for the space optical communications market.

What are you going to do?

  • Set up, organize, and run large, complex projects in the space domain with multiple shareholders and stakeholders.
  • Manage and help write offers to customers, ESA tenders, and subsidy projects.
  • Contribute to a strong definition of the project scope and project objectives during the project initiation phase.
  • Draft project plans in accordance with the established project methodology and the requirements and regulations agreed with the customer and internal stakeholders.
  • Identify bottlenecks, initiate solutions, and monitor the progress of agreements made, thereby ensuring project progress.
  • Be responsible for the realization of projects regarding time, logistics, and cost, as laid down in the project plan.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the customer regarding progress, change management, and escalations during the project.
  • Be in charge of the organization, design, and implementation of the project administration.
  • Take initiative in a start-up company to help out wherever you can, add value, and help shape the company.

What do you bring to the table?

  • You have a degree at the level of higher professional education (HBO or WO), preferably in a technical or (technical) business direction.
  • You have a minimum of 7 years’ experience in a comparable project management position, preferably in the space industry.
  • You have experience in setting up complex projects, often using EU, ESA, or Dutch subsidies.
  • You are pragmatic, can work with a large degree of independence, and show initiative in building the company.
  • You have good communication and social skills and an excellent customer-oriented attitude.
  • You have good command of the English language in word and writing. Good command of the Dutch language is preferable but not mandatory.
  • You are ambitious, solution-oriented, and a team player. You are also creative, flexible, and know how to maintain a calm attitude and overview in stressful situations.
  • You are able to quickly get up to speed in a complex and often political and strategic landscape.
