Embedded Software Engineer

I’m currently supporting a client who is looking to bring on an Embedded Software Engineer to drive flight software development for their nanosatellite missions.

The focus is on hands-on CDHS (Command and Data Handling System) development, building software across the full mission lifecycle, from proposal support and requirements definition through delivery and in-orbit operations support, while collaborating closely with Project Managers, Systems Engineers, and AIT teams.

If you have strong embedded C expertise, experience with FreeRTOS and spacecraft flight software, and can step into a project and contribute across disciplines, this could be an excellent opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and verify CDHS flight software for nanosatellites
• Derive subsystem requirements and support proposal preparation
• Write technical documentation including requirements specifications, test procedures, and software/system documentation
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Systems Engineers, and System Assembly Integration and Test (AIT) Engineers
• Support delivery of software to internal and external customers
• Support in-orbit operations
• Act as a versatile engineer, stepping in across projects where needed

Skills & Experience

• 3-6 years of working experience in embedded flight software development for spacecraft
• Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems, or equivalent
• Thorough knowledge of the C programming language
• Experience with data-interface standards: I2C, UART, SPI
• Experience with FreeRTOS
• Experience with Git and GitLab
• Experience with microcontrollers and associated IDEs
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and multi-tasking ability
• Energetic team player with a positive, open mindset
• Excellent, straightforward communication skills (proficient in English)
• A strong sense of responsibility and commitment
• A strategic and analytical mind
• Ability to work independently and flexibly
