For the Data & AI department at NN Group IT, we are looking for an experienced Data Engineering Lead / Evangelist who is passionate about data engineering, knowledge sharing, and growing engineering communities. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of data engineering across NN Group while working alongside hundreds of engineers who build data products that create business value every day.

As a core member of the Data Engineering Guild, you will inspire and connect more than 350 data engineers and platform engineers across multiple countries and business units. You will be recognized as a trusted technical expert, a role model for engineering excellence, and a driving force behind the adoption of modern data engineering practices.

If you enjoy sharing knowledge, contributing to communities, creating learning content, exploring new technologies, and helping others grow, this role offers a platform to amplify your impact across an international organization.

What you are going to do

In this role, you will combine hands-on technical expertise with community building. You will help shape how data engineering is practiced at NN, enabling teams to deliver scalable, trusted, and innovative data solutions.

You will act as an ambassador for modern data engineering, connecting teams, promoting engineering excellence, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspire and support a global community of 350+ data engineers and platform engineers
  • Organize and facilitate guild events, technical meetups, hackathons and community initiatives
  • Create opportunities for engineers to learn from each other and share successes, challenges, and lessons learned
  • Build an open, collaborative engineering culture that encourages experimentation and innovation
  • Stay at the forefront of modern data engineering practices and emerging technologies
  • Share expertise through presentations, demos, workshops, articles
  • Define and evolve engineering standards, reusable patterns, architectures, and best practices
  • Promote pragmatic engineering approaches that improve quality, reliability, and maintainability
  • Own and continuously enhance NN's Data Engineering Learning Track within the Data Literacy Program
  • Develop engaging learning journeys and assessments
  • Mentor engineers at different stages of their careers
  • Help individuals and teams identify growth opportunities and develop new skills
  • Work closely with data engineering teams, platform teams, architects, data scientists, and technology leaders
  • Partner with guilds and communities across Data, AI, Architecture, and Engineering
  • Influence and align teams without direct authority
  • Help create a consistent and high-quality engineering experience across the organization

What we offer you

NN invests in an inclusive, inspiring work environment and in skills and competences for the future. We match this with employee benefits that are in line with what is needed today and in the future. This way, we offer our employees the opportunity to get the best out of themselves.

We offer this job fully remote as a virtual assignment. As part of this role, you will have an employment contract under the local collective labour agreement (CLA) from one of the NN International countries participating in this workstream. This means you can apply for the job if you reside in the Netherlands, Belgium, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Spain, and Greece. Once we know from which country you will perform the job, we will be able to inform you better about the local employee benefits.

Who you are

You are an experienced data engineer who enjoys helping others succeed as much as solving technical challenges. You combine strong engineering skills with curiosity, communication, and a passion for building communities.

Required:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Data Platform Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong hands-on experience with modern data platforms and lakehouse technologies (Databricks experience is a strong plus)
  • Deep understanding of data engineering principles, including data modeling, distributed processing, ingestion patterns, transformation frameworks, data quality, and observability
  • Experience designing and promoting reusable engineering practices and standards
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Comfortable influencing across teams and organizational boundaries
  • A continuous learning mindset and enthusiasm for sharing knowledge

Nice to have:

  • Active contributor to open-source projects, technical communities, blogs, podcasts, meetups, or conferences
  • Experience running engineering guilds, communities of practice, academies, or enablement programs
  • Experience creating technical training, workshops, hands-on labs, or certification programs
  • Experience working in a platform engineering, center-of-excellence, or federated engineering organization

Who you will work with

You will be part of the Data & AI enablement ecosystem, working across the organization to strengthen data engineering capabilities. In this role you will collaborate closely with the DLP stakeholders and the Data Engineering Guild core team to drive standards, community engagement, and adoption.

We value teamwork, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning, and we actively encourage innovation and personal development.

This role offers a rare opportunity to influence the way data engineering is practiced across an international organization. Instead of building a single product, you will help hundreds of engineers become more effective, shape engineering standards at scale, and drive the adoption of modern practices across NN Group.
