Job description
You will shape the future of computer vision and AI by developing an internationally recognized research line, inspiring the next generation of engineers, and creating meaningful impact through science, education, and internal and external collaborations. The Department of Intelligent Systems at TU Delft is looking for an Assistant or Associate Professor who is excited to advance the field of Computer Vision and Deep Learning through excellent research, inspiring education, and meaningful collaboration.
The Computer Vision Lab conducts internationally recognized research on the automatic analysis and interpretation of visual data, including images, video, and 3D/4D sensor data. As part of the Pattern Recognition & Bioinformatics section, you will join a collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment with expertise in computer vision, pattern recognition, machine learning, bioinformatics, deep learning, generative AI, neuromorphic computing, spiking neural networks, and data-driven modelling.
You will develop an independent research program with international impact and visibility at the intersection of computer vision, deep learning, and modern AI. Your research may focus on topics such as:

You will position your research within computer vision while connecting it to broader developments in deep learning and artificial intelligence. You will contribute to education in deep learning, machine learning, AI, and specialized computer vision courses, as well as support curriculum development, academic leadership, and mentoring within the department. You will supervise PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, MSc and BSc students, supporting them in their development as independent researchers and professionals.
You will become part of an open, international, and interdisciplinary research environment with excellent facilities and close collaborations across faculties and external partners. Assistant Professor
During the Academic Career Track, we expect you to grow towards an Associate Professor position within a maximum of eight years, for which a position will be available. With other Academic Career Track colleagues, you will participate in the Academic Career Track Development programme, where you are offered ample opportunities to develop yourself in the areas of Education, Research, Societal Impact & Innovation, and Leadership & Organisation. You will regularly discuss your development and results with senior staff based on personalized development and performance criteria agreed upon at the start of your Academic Career Track. You will start with a temporary contract that will be converted to a permanent contract no later than 12-18 months after a positive evaluation, based on continuous confidence in your development potential and fit in the organisation.
Associate Professor
For an Associate Professor position, we offer an initial temporary position with the prospect of a permanent contract. The duration of the temporary position is a maximum of 1 year. After a positive performance assessment, you will be employed in a permanent Associate Professor position.
Inspiring, excellent education is our central aim. We expect you to obtain a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) within three years if you have less than five years of teaching experience. This is provided by the TU Delft UTQ programme as part of the Academic Career Track Development programme.
TU Delft sets high standards for the English competency of the teaching staff. TU Delft offers training to improve English competency. If you do not speak Dutch, we offer courses to learn the Dutch language within three years.
