We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative intern or working student who is eager to gain hands-on experience in the world of salvage operations. In this role, you will help bring our sustainability ambitions to life by making sustainability initiatives within our salvage operations visible, understandable, and engaging for internal and external audiences.

Together with colleagues, you will support the communication of sustainability initiatives and projects across the organization. Your focus will be on translating technical and operational information into clear, compelling stories and communication materials that strengthen awareness, visibility, and understanding of our sustainability efforts.

No two days are the same in this dynamic environment. One part of your day may involve writing articles, gathering input from colleagues, creating content, and preparing communications for publication. The other part may focus on supporting and developing communication strategies, identifying relevant topics, mapping communication channels, and developing new ideas to improve how we share our sustainability story.

Your responsibilities as Communication & Sustainability Intern

  • Translate sustainability initiatives and projects into engaging communication content for internal and external audiences.
  • Create content for newsletters, articles, case studies, social media, and industry publications.
  • Gather input and stories from colleagues across the business.
  • Support the development of communication strategies and content calendars related to sustainability topics.
  • Help identify the most effective communication channels for different messages and audiences.
  • Contribute to increasing the visibility and understanding of our sustainability efforts and the SMIT brand awareness.
  • Develop creative communication concepts and proactively bring forward new ideas.
  • Support both day-to-day communication activities and longer-term communication strategies.
  • Develop a protocol for future follow-up initiatives.

Your qualities and experience

You can make a difference as an intern if you bring the following:

  • You are enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program, preferably in Communications, Marketing, Sustainability or Journalism. Students from maritime academies and nautical colleges with a strong interest in communications and sustainability are also encouraged to apply.
  • You have an interest in sustainability and enjoy translating complex topics into clear and engaging messages.
  • You are a strong writer with excellent communication skills.
  • You are creative, curious, and enjoy coming up with fresh ideas.
  • You like combining hands-on content creation with strategic thinking.
  • You are proactive, organized, and eager to learn.
  • You can work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • You have an excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken.

We offer

  • Internship mentoring: we offer you the opportunity to get the most out of your internship by providing the right guidance.
  • Warm welcome: you can count on a warm welcome, so you quickly feel at home at SMIT Salvage.
  • Salary and more: as an intern or working student you will receive an allowance. In addition, we offer a fun working environment with many challenges.
  • A dynamic working environment: as an intern or working student you can learn a lot from a leading salvage company and be part of a diverse team of experts.
