About this position
The SHE & Process Safety Lead supports the implementation and continuous improvement of Safety, Health, Environmental (SHE), and Process Safety Management activities at the Scheemda manufacturing site. This position is intended for a developing SHE professional with strong leadership potential who can act as deputy to the SHE & Process Safety Manager and provide operational support across the site.
The role combines hands-on operational SHE support with leadership development and exposure to strategic process safety activities. The SHE & Process Safety Lead will play a key role in driving safety culture, supporting compliance activities, coordinating risk reduction initiatives, and strengthening process safety awareness within the plant.
In the absence of the SHE & Process Safety Manager, the SHE & Process Safety Lead is expected to act as the site SHE focal point and support operational continuity, escalation management, and regulatory coordination where required.
What you’ll do
Operational SHE Support & Compliance
- Support the implementation and maintenance of site SHE and Process Safety Management systems in alignment with legal, corporate, and ISO requirements.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with occupational safety, environmental, and process safety regulations and internal standards.
- Participate in site inspections, audits, permit compliance activities, and regulatory follow-up actions.
- Support the administration and governance of SHE procedures, work instructions, and risk management documentation.
- Assist in contractor safety management and permit-to-work processes.
Process Safety & Risk Reduction
- Support process safety activities including risk assessments, HAZOP participation, incident investigations, and Management of Change (MOC) processes.
- Assist in identifying process safety risks related to chemical handling, equipment integrity, fire/explosion hazards, and operational changes.
- Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to improve machine safety, operational discipline, and preventive controls.
- Support monitoring of process safety KPIs, action tracking, and closure of identified improvement measures.
- Participate in emergency preparedness activities and support emergency response coordination.
Incident Investigation & Continuous Improvement
- Participate in SHE and process safety incident investigations using root cause analysis methodologies.
- Support follow-up and tracking of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Conduct workplace inspections, safety observations, and hazard identification activities.
- Drive improvement initiatives related to ergonomics, housekeeping, environmental impact reduction, and safe behaviors.
- Support implementation of Lean/HPS-based safety improvements and operational risk reduction initiatives.
Training & Safety Culture
- Support delivery of SHE and process safety training programs for employees and contractors.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through daily engagement on the shop floor, Gemba walks, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns.
- Coach employees and frontline supervisors on safe work practices and risk awareness.
- Help coordinate emergency drills and maintain emergency response readiness.
Leadership Development & Deputy Responsibilities
- Act as deputy for the SHE & Process Safety Manager during absence, holidays, or business travel.
- Support preparation of SHE reports, KPI dashboards, audit summaries, and management presentations.
- Participate in site leadership discussions related to operational safety and risk management.
- Collaborate with regional and global SHE networks to gain exposure to best practices and corporate standards.
- Demonstrate leadership potential and readiness for future progression into a SHE & Process Safety Manager role.
What makes you a good fit
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Approximately 3–6 years of experience in SHE, operational safety, manufacturing, or industrial environments.
- Experience in chemical, industrial, or manufacturing operations is preferred.
- Strong interest in developing expertise in Process Safety Management and operational risk management.
- Familiarity with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, risk assessments, and incident investigation methodologies is preferred.
- MVK, NEBOSH, or equivalent SHE qualifications are considered an advantage.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage employees across all levels.
- Fluent in English and Dutch.
