Are you passionate about Artificial Intelligence and eager to turn emerging technologies into practical business solutions? Do you enjoy building innovative tools while also helping others understand and adopt new technologies? At Haskoning, we are looking for a Junior Data Scientist who combines strong analytical skills with a genuine interest in AI and Large Language Models (LLMs).

In this role, you will help accelerate AI adoption within our Supply Chain & Logistics advisory group, contribute to innovative client projects, and develop internal tools that improve the way we work. You will work at the intersection of data science, optimization, software development, and AI innovation.

Whether you're exploring the latest AI trends, developing prototypes, or supporting optimization projects for our clients, you will have the opportunity to make a tangible impact from day one.

What you will do as Junior Data Scientist

As a Junior Data Scientist, you support the team in identifying, developing, and implementing AI-driven solutions that create value both internally and for our clients.

  • Drive AI and LLM initiatives by keeping track of developments in AI tooling, platforms, and frameworks; monitoring internal AI solutions and identifying opportunities for reuse and improvement; exploring emerging AI technologies and translating trends into practical applications; developing prototypes and proof-of-concepts; and supporting the integration of AI and LLM capabilities into existing products and services.
  • Develop tools and enable colleagues by building AI-powered tools that improve efficiency and productivity; contributing to solutions such as smart data ingestion platforms, AI-assisted code reviews, and intelligent assistants; helping define best practices for prompting, evaluation, governance, and AI use-case design; organizing workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions; and supporting colleagues in adopting AI technologies.
  • Contribute to client projects within supply chain and logistics, including planning & optimization, cost-to-serve analyses, supply chain network design, and warehouse location and capacity studies.
  • Perform data analyses and develop models in Python.
  • Assist with validation, interpretation, and communication of results, and explore opportunities to enhance existing solutions with AI and LLM capabilities.

Where you will work

At Haskoning, you will join an independent, employee-owned international consultancy that combines engineering, design, and consultancy services with software and technology.

As our new Junior Data Scientist, you will become part of Haskoning's Supply Chain & Logistics team, a multidisciplinary group of consultants, data scientists, and optimization specialists who help clients make smarter decisions through data and technology.

Our team works on complex challenges across industries, combining advanced analytics, operations research, software development, and domain expertise. At the same time, we are actively exploring how AI and LLM technologies can further enhance our services and transform the way we work.

You will collaborate closely with colleagues across advisory groups, AI initiatives, and digital teams, giving you exposure to a broad range of expertise and innovative projects.

We offer a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment where curiosity, continuous learning, and innovation are encouraged.

What you bring

You are an enthusiastic early-career professional who enjoys both building solutions and explaining them to others. You are curious about new technologies and motivated to translate innovative ideas into practical applications.

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science & AI, Business Analytics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Econometrics, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
  • Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English, with 0–4 years of relevant experience.
  • Programming experience in Python and SQL, combined with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of data pipelines and data modelling concepts, and knowledge of LLM concepts such as prompting, embeddings, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
  • A proactive attitude and eagerness to learn and inspire.

It is a plus if you have experience with Azure cloud services; LLM frameworks such as LangChain, Semantic Kernel, or similar technologies; Git and software development best practices; supply chain and logistics analytics; mathematical optimization or operations research techniques; and facilitating workshops or delivering training sessions.

What you can expect from us

  • A competitive base salary with annual increases.
  • A strong pension scheme, personal budget, annual profit sharing, and the opportunity to purchase company shares.
  • 28 vacation days based on full-time employment, with the option to purchase additional days, exchange public holidays, and work in a hybrid model with flexible hours, a home office allowance, and a fully equipped home workspace.
  • A wide range of training and development programs, including tailored learning paths, learning weeks, and knowledge-sharing groups.
  • A conveniently located workplace at one of our offices, with travel expense reimbursement and an NS Business Card, plus a higher travel allowance if you walk or bike to work.
  • A welcoming and open environment with voluntary social and sports activities, and employee networks such as Pride and Young Haskoning.
  • The opportunity to contribute to forward-looking initiatives in AI and data-driven ways of working.
