GoCardless was set up in London by Tom Blomfield, Matt Robinson and Hiroki Takeuchi in 2011. With late payments plaguing SMEs – the average small business
has to wait 43.4 days beyond payment terms for their invoices to be paid -‐ the initial aim was to make it simpler for small businesses to collect direct debits online. By unifying the world’s Direct Debit networks, simplifying them, and opening up access to everyone, we’re now building a new payments network for the internet. We’ve quickly grown into one of Europe’s leading Direct Debit providers, processing over half a billion pounds a year for over ten thousand businesses.
