Graduation assignment for HBO Mechanical Engineering / Mechatronics

Develop a mechanical solution that applies a constant force to press a glass plate onto a rotating silicone belt.

Are you an HBO Engineering student eager to design and prototype a real precision mechanical solution used in high tech production equipment? Do you want to work hands on on mechanics, force control and material handling challenges in an industrial environment?

Your assignment

You will develop a mechanical solution that presses a glass plate onto a rotating silicone belt with a constant, well defined force. This mechanism will be used inside one of our production systems and must ensure stable contact, minimal friction variation and high reliability.

You will work on topics such as:

  • Designing a force controlled pressing mechanism (e.g., spring loaded, pneumatic, or mass based systems).
  • Determining and validating the required force and force stability.
  • Understanding the interaction between the glass plate, silicone belt and rotation dynamics.
  • Creating mechanical concepts, evaluating them through calculations and feasibility studies.
  • Building and testing a prototype.

You will collaborate with our Equipment Engineering team in Venlo. You will be surrounded by specialists in mechanics, materials and production systems who can support you with expertise and hands on guidance.

What makes this assignment unique and fun to do? Why should you choose this assignment?

You get to design a real mechanical subsystem from scratch, test it directly on industrial setups, and see your work contribute to equipment used in the field. It’s a mix of design freedom, practical experimentation and engineering depth.

Your profile

  • You are currently studying HBO Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related technical field.
  • You enjoy tackling mechanical design challenges and turning concepts into working prototypes.
  • You like working with materials, force control mechanisms and rotating systems.

You have skills or interest in:

  • Mechanical design (CAD)
  • Basic force and stress calculations
  • Testing & experimentation
  • Problem solving and hands on engineering

You are available for a graduation assignment of 5–6 months, starting around your preferred date, for a minimum of 4 days per week. This assignment is intended as an HBO graduation assignment.

What’s in it for you?

  • A challenging assignment with skilled coaching
  • Internship/ Graduation compensation up to €500,- per month
  • Travel cost compensation if you don’t have an ‘OV-weekcard’
  • The possibility to network with professionals inside and outside your field of expertise, thanks to our diversity of disciplines which you will work with
