Turn international ambitions into signed partnerships as a New Business Developer EU at bol.

How do you make our customers happy?

We strive to offer our 13.7 million customers the best possible selection of products at the best possible prices, and Europe’s top e-commerce players can help us improve on both counts. As a New Business Developer EU, you’ll identify, pursue, and onboard European partners who meet bol’s high standards for assortment quality, competitive pricing, and fast delivery. Currently, around 60% of our products are sold through partners. You’ll expand that ecosystem with high-caliber vendors. You’ll build your own pipeline, open doors through consultative selling, and guide new partners from first conversation to successful launch with main focus on the French market.

The biggest challenge

Convincing established e-commerce players that the bol platform provides solid growth opportunities. To succeed, you’ll need to understand their business models, anticipate possible objections, and craft compelling proposals. That requires more than sales instincts: market knowledge, cultural fluency, and the persistence to foster relationships are also essential. And when a partner commits, the real work begins – guiding them through the onboarding process and setting them up for long-term platform success.

What you’ll do as a New Business Developer EU

You’ll join our International New Business Development team, where you’ll work alongside seven NBD colleagues focused on the EU market. While the scope covers the EU, your primary playing field is the French market. You’ll explore and analyze opportunities leveraging bol’s data, your own network, and external agencies. Collaboration runs through everything you do. You’ll work with teams across bol and with external stakeholders to optimize the funnel and support partners in achieving their growth ambitions. In short:

  • Identify and select top EU/French e-commerce players that meet bol’s quality, assortment, and delivery standards
  • Build and proactively manage a prospect pipeline through market research, networking, and agency collaboration
  • Open the right doors and negotiate partnerships using consultative selling techniques
  • Collaborate with internal teams to optimize the funnel
  • Deliver measurable new business results that contribute to bol’s international ambitions

Why you can make a difference

With 5+ years of experience as a Sales Manager, Business Developer, or Category Manager in an international commercial setting – preferably in e-commerce – you can build effective pipelines and close deals that last. You know the EU & French market and are fluent in French and English (Dutch would be a great asset too). You turn market insights into proposals that inspire action. Your communication skills help you overcome objections and you stay in the game, even if doors don’t open immediately or completely. An HBO or master’s-level background means you can make the right strategic calls in a data-rich setting.

3 reasons why this is (not) for you

Not for you if

  • Lonely hunter: Acquisition is a solo activity
  • Sales-averse: Cold outreach and sales negotiations with international counterparts? You’d rather focus purely on strategy.
  • One size fits all: You’re not interested in understanding a partner’s business model or determining platform fit.

For you if

  • Pipeline builder: You create your own opportunities and are an experienced pipeline builder
  • Consultative closer: You win partners through data-inspired insights and genuine enthusiasm for their ambitions
  • Cross-border connector: You understand how to engage international partners, can bridge cultural differences, and develop win-win relationships

Where you’ll work

You’ll join the International New Business Development team at bol. With twelve colleagues covering EU and non-EU markets, this is an ambitious, collaborative team that’s laying the groundwork for bol’s international growth. You’ll report to the Manager International Network Development. The environment is results-driven, enthusiastic and supportive: we share knowledge freely, celebrate commercial wins together, and collectively learn from near misses.

Relocation assistance to the Netherlands is available from the moment you have the job.

At bol we understand like no other that you have to take care of yourself first, then your environment and then bol. In that order. Therefore, everyone at bol receives 29 days of vacation.
